We are looking for a self-starting, creative and driven Level Designer to join our team and help create memorable gaming experiences for our players. The Level Designer will be partnered with Gameplay Designers to create compelling gameplay spaces for our Faith-based children’s titles. Working closely with the Design, Art and Engineering, you will be responsible for prototyping the gameplay environments, establishing the layouts, and suggesting ways of using the interactive and non-interactive elements to create the desired emotions. With a passion for prototyping and a keen eye for detail, the Game Designer will ensure that the games’ playspaces are architected for maximum challenge and fun while remaining age-appropriate, adhering to our 4 Foundations, and match or exceed the quality seen in the top interactive choices available on the app store...all while remaining on schedule and budget.

Requirements:

  • Must - Success designing and building digital game experiences used by children
  • Must - Proven experience in rapid gameplay prototyping
  • Must - Demonstrated knowledge of gameplay mechanics, level layouts and game pacing
  • Must - Experience and willingness to work collaboratively with Creative Directors, Engineers, Artists and other Game and Level Designers
  • Must - Comfort with iterative game development, informed by User Testing and Live Player Data
  • Must - Knowledge and experience in working with Production to scope, schedule and deliver game levels in a timely manner
  • Must - Familiarity with the Bible
  • Must - Proficiency in game development tools and software (e.g. Unity, Unreal)

Responsibilities:

  • Design and layout of engaging gameplay levels including creating/placing geometry & assets, based on the vision of the Leads and Directors
  • Create level concepts, block them out in the engine’s level editor and ensure a playable prototype throughout production
  • Prototype, tweak and re-test gameplay levels and environments based on feedback from frequent User Testing sessions
  • Manage your levels through the full cycle of production from conception and prototyping to finalization
  • Work in collaboration with level artists and game designers to ensure the playability of the level, implementation of core mechanics, and graphic elements all support one another
  • Integrate necessary elements to supplement gameplay in your levels (e.g. new mechanics, sound, VFX, etc.)
  • Collaborate with art and design teams to ensure the consistency of your work
  • Maintain or exceed consistent level of productivity while meeting deadlines and producing high-quality work
  • Keep up on current interactive gaming offerings to ensure your levels meet or exceed the expectations of current consumers

Professional Experience/Skills:

  • 2+ years of level design experience in mobile games aimed at a younger audience, with at least one shipped product
  • Experience in designing and prototyping gameplay levels
  • Ability to manage time and work effectively and efficiently to produce deliverables in a fast-paced, multi-project environment
  • Proficiency in game design tools and engines (e.g. Unity, Unreal, Sketchup)
  • Up-to-date with the latest game trends, techniques and technologies
  • Set an optimistic tone and promote communication and teamwork
  • Lead by example
