Treyarch is looking for a Senior Environment Artist who is passionate about Foliage to join our maps team and drive the quality bar for vegetation in our games across current gen and next gen platforms.

Qualified candidates will work alongside a team of extraordinary artists who have worked on one of the most successful video game franchises of all time. What you'll be doing…

  • Maintaining, growing, and improving our foliage library for multiplayer maps, ensuring visual and technical quality standards are met.

  • Working closely with the Tech Art team and Art Direction to define our vegetation needs, vetting existing content, and identifying action items for improving asset quality.

  • Creating realistic models and textures for a variety of foliage needs.

  • Working with scanned vegetation source content and travelling locally to scan content as needed using photogrammetry and photometric stereo rigs.

  • Rigging foliage assets for believable movement.

  • Working closely with Tech Art and Photogrammetry team to support and define new tools, shaders, features and workflows and related research and development.

  • Identifying and troubleshooting foliage to stay within frame rate, memory, and design specifications.

  • Working with external vendors as needed to extend foliage construction capacity, providing feedback that ensures quality and technical execution standards are met.

  • Frequently communicating and collaborating with other Activision studios on foliage initiatives.

To succeed you should have…

  • A portfolio demonstrating a diversity of photorealistic foliage and biomes in one or more game engines, preferably leveraging real world scan data.

  • Significant experience and techniques in the creation of trees, plants, shrubs, and vines using cards/flats.

  • Strong technical capability ensuring assets fit memory, design and frame rate limitations.

  • Strong polygon modelling skills, creating clean and efficient geometry quickly.

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience working in the game industry modeling and texturing foliage using Maya (preferred) or related experience/software.

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience working with SpeedTree.

  • 3D modeling and texturing experience using Photoshop, Zbrush, Substance or related software.

  • The ability to capture and process photogrammetry content into in-game assets using Reality Capture or equivalent.

  • Strong opinions and knowledge about what it takes to achieve photorealistic foliage, from grass blades to bushes to trees that will be seen by players up close and at a distance.

  • Self-motivated, independent and ability to self-manage to meet deadlines with minimal direction.

  • Strong communication skills, being able to proactively update stakeholders with information and assets, and knows when to ask for help.
