Job summary:

Reporting directly to our Lead FX Artist, we’re looking for an artist/magician/pyromaniac/tech-head FX Artist who can create astounding visual FX.

Here’s what you’ll be doing:

  • Create amazing yet efficient in-game particle and geometric VFX using proprietary tools as well as Maya and Photoshop.
  • Work with level artists, level designers, character designers and programmers to implement and troubleshoot FX.
  • Create art assets which demonstrate advanced techniques.
  • Be a proactive problem solver with solid grasp of artistic and design principles.

The skills and experience you’ll need:

  • 2+ years of experience in VFX for games.
  • Strong experience working with real-time particle engines and geometric FX as demonstrated by a strong portfolio.
  • Strong understanding of color, composition, and timing.
  • Texture creation expertise by hand, photos or other packages.
  • Good modeling, UV-ing, rigging and animating skills.
  • Solid understanding of art pipelines and how to get the most out of them.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Self motivated and a team player.
  • Flexibility with adoption of art styles and direction.
  • Sets priorities and plans with a realistic sense of the time demand involved.
  • Takes personal responsibility for the quality and timeliness of work, and achieves results with little oversight.
  • Maintains composure in highly stressful or adverse situations.

You’ll really catch our eye:

  • Deep understanding of timing, scale, color, composition, motion and physics for visual effects.
  • A problem solver and creative thinker.
  • Cascade, Maya, Photoshop and After Effects experience.
  • Shipped one or more AAA titles.
  • Scripting or programming experience.
  • Solid understanding of art pipelines and how to get the most out of them.
  • Experience working between art, design and engineering departments.
  • Motivated and driven to face challenges.
  • Texture creation expertise, either 2D painting, photosource or 3D renders.
  • Modeling and UVmap understanding.
  • Ability to give useful critiques of VFX as well as receive feedback and art direction.
  • BS/BA/BFA degree in graphic design, fine arts, digital arts or similar.
