Position Summary: Lead Environment Artist

  • Must have AAA UE4 game development experience with 1+ shipped UE4 title as Lead Environment Artist on PC and 8th/9th gen consoles within the last 3 years.
  • An up-to-date portfolio of work that represents your talent, skills, and artistic style is required.
  • As the Lead Environment Artist, you will be responsible for creating assets that align with the Art Director’s vision & standards while managing & leading a team of talented Environment Artists.
  • As part of a multi-discipline group of talented game developers, you will help define priorities and ensure proper execution and delivery of milestones.
  • Overall, you will collaborate and communicate with other discipline leaders at TLM to develop world-class, Cross-Play centric, solutions and workflows for the worlds we build.

Responsibilities

  • Take direction from the Art Director to help establish the requirements, from concept to final integration of Environmental assets into UE4.
  • Organize and define best practices and workflows for the Environment Art team so that they are enabled and supported in creating world-class environments.
  • Define the quality bar for your team by creating inspirational examples of what is possible, what is expected.
  • Assist the Art Director in supporting the project’s creative and technical requirements.
  • Work closely with a cross-functional team of Engineers, Designers and Artists to create world-class Cross-Play products.
  • Coordinate with our Outsource Manager for reviewing assets coming in from external vendors and partners.
  • Embrace new opportunities and challenges. Take responsibility for leading the Environment Art team through the challenges of UE4 game development.
  • Be an integral part of our culture of collaboration, leadership and artistic growth. Support TLM’s mission to create the next generation of Cross-Play game developers in a global 100% remote studio.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant major.
  • 5+ years of experience on a UE4 game development team as a Senior Environment Artist with 2+ years as Lead Environment Artist, in the last 3 years, on a UE4 game development team
  • Current portfolio that demonstrates your talent for creating worlds that are both optimized and visually stunning, especially within the context of AAA UE4 game development.
  • Minimum of 1 successful, AAA, UE4 game shipped as a Lead Environment Artist in the last 3 years.
  • Expertise in environmental asset creation with DCC packages; Maya or 3DS Max is preferred.
  • Expertise in asset integration/assembly within the UE4 Editor.
  • Expertise in environmental lighting, both internal and external; with a deep understanding of different lighting solutions, gameplay requirements, and level layouts that affect visual presentation and performance.
  • Expertise in creating high-quality biomes and landscapes, along with possessing an excellent sense of architectural proportions/spaces that exist within natural settings.
  • Proficiency with UE4 Blueprints and the technical understanding to drive requirements and optimization efforts of environmental assets.
  • Ability and desire to lead the Environment Artists with kindness, clarity, and artistic vision is a must.

Desired Qualifications

  • Demonstrable dedication to personal growth as an artist and a leader.
  • Working knowledge of scripting languages such as MEL or Python.
  • Breadth of knowledge when it comes to existing and emerging tools, techniques, and technologies that influence and aid in environmental content creation.
