Job Description:

The eSports Head Coach will lead the effort to develop the Saint Rose eSports program to start in the Fall 2019. The program will consist of two teams competitively playing multiplayer online video games Overwatch and League of Legends. Recruiting activities shall include communications with club programs to develop awareness, attendance at competitions, evaluation of talent, inviting recruits for visits and working with Admissions and Financial Aid.

Once the program is implemented for Fall 2019, the eSports Head Coach will be responsible for recruiting qualified student-gamers, monitoring academic progress toward degree, scheduling, competition and practice preparation, individual and program development and facility and equipment maintenance.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Recruit qualified student gamers to create and maintain two eSports teams.
  • Meet student gamers recruitment/enrollment goals set by the College.
  • Ensure the student gamers retention rate comparable to the average retention rate of athletic teams.
  • Manage gamer skills development and provide guidance and support.
  • Record and archive matches and lead VOD reviews for feedback and strategy development.
  • Identify and schedule scrimmages and/or exhibition matches with other collegiate eSports teams.
  • Plan and organize all practices for the eSports teams.
  • Monitor academic progress of all student gamers and counsel/support as needed to ensure academic success and player eligibility.
  • Ensure gamer eligibility in all collegiate leagues and competitions and maintain gamer records of that eligibility.
  • Work with Financial Aid to manage, report, and award all eSports scholarships.
  • Manage program budget as identified prior to the start of each academic year.
  • Maintain and monitor the eSports Arena and all equipment.
  • Work with the Marketing Department to promote the teams, including social media presence.
  • Register teams for competitive seasons on appropriate platforms.
  • Study each game and stay informed about relevant updates.
  • Promote wellness, safety and self-care awareness among student gamers.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Experience in competitive eSports gaming required.
  • Experience as an eSports coach or team captain is preferred.
  • Experience in leadership roles such as coach, supervisor, club leader etc. that require to routinely manage team dynamics, is required.
  • Bachelor's Degree from a four-year college or university.
  • In-depth knowledge of competitive online PC gaming across multiple platforms.
  • Experience with and thorough knowledge of Overwatch and/or League of Legends.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage and develop students.
  • Demonstrated commitment to national and international diversity and inclusion, and inter-cultural learning.
  • Exceptional communication skills and ability to promote the eSports program within the campus and the community.
  • Experience with program administration, such as scheduling and recordkeeping, is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to handle confidential information professionally.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to sit and stand for long periods at a time.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Must be available to work a variable schedule consistent with the schedule of program events, including evening, overnight, and weekend hours.
  • CPR/AED certification must be held at the time of hire or completed within 60 days of hire date.

Additional Information:

This is a full-time, 12-month position. The schedule is 40 hours a week and includes evening, overnight and weekend hours.
