The Coalition is a Microsoft 1st party development studio located in downtown Vancouver, Canada. We are the official home of the Gears of War franchise and our objective is to forge the future of the IP and push the limits of Microsoft’s entertainment platforms and devices. Our team is comprised of deep creative and technical expertise from our industry’s top shooter and action titles, working cohesively to delight our fan base and shatter expectations of what is possible.

We are currently looking for an experienced Community Management Director to lead the community team at The Coalition. The ideal candidate understands how game communities function, has the ability to communicate effectively and transparently, can handle online toxicity, knows how to increase player engagement and can cultivate and nurture an inclusive environment. As Community Management Director, you are a creative individual who is comfortable driving conversations and who can easily navigate a highly dynamic environment that is always in motion.

In this role, you will develop end-game content and per-channel strategies, collaborate with influencer networks, and craft strategic community plans and programs.Ideally, you have a deep knowledge of what is required to grow, engage, and build player communities on a global scale, and are passionate about developing a team of player-centric community professionals required to meet the needs of the product and community. Most importantly, you have a deep appreciated for the important of player trust, and always put the player at the center.

Responsibilities

  • Build inclusive and respectful communities that reflect the core values of The Coalition. Develop a diverse and inclusive community for Gears of War.
  • Advocate for the voice of the player, constantly seek to build bridges and trust, and foster constructive dialogue with the community.
  • Lead a team of talented internal community professionals and external moderators. Provide clarity and empathy. Foster a growth mindset and continuous improvement.
  • Develop and execute community development strategy for the Gears of War franchise. Translate strategy into clear goals and objectives for the team.
  • Maintain an ongoing content calendar for owned social channels providing visibility and transparency to stakeholders.
  • Direct the development of creative briefs for content and ensure asset production and approval processes are well coordinated.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including development, marketing, and PR in the development of all communications.
  • Establish key performance indicators, collaborate to set goals for sentiment and engagement, and drive regular reporting and analyses.
  • Develop and manage process to address customer support issues.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 5+ years’ experience in a communications and/or community role for a large game or entertainment brand.
  • A minimum 3+ years’ experience leading and managing community teams on major consumer brands and/or entertainment franchises.
  • Demonstrated track record managing major community programs at scale, including new channel growth, developer communications, influencer activations, and content creator initiatives.
  • Master of communication channels and the nuances between the strategy, content, and audience for each.
  • Pro-active planner comfortable working across multiple, complex and highly matrixed workstreams.
  • Experience in community management, social media content planning and storytelling.
  • Skilled copy writer with an eye for quality and can maintain a consistent voice across platforms.
  • Extensive experience in numerous social media channels and the analytics behind them.
  • Strategic thinker with strong execution and communication skills.
  • Strong presentation skills, with the ability to work with other members across the organization.
  • Extremely detail-oriented and driven to consistently meet deadlines.
  • Able to travel, including international travel, and work non-standard hours as needed.

Preferred

  • Advanced degrees in communication, marketing, or related field.
  • Experience with shooter games, preferably the Gears of War franchise, its communities, and the gaming space in general.
