The Chinese Room is made up of a diverse mix of fantastic people, although sometimes, some groups are still under-represented. The role @ TCR

The Chinese Room is looking for an experienced and talented Technical Designer who will be working closely with our multi-disciplined team to develop game prototypes and create compelling gameplay experiences.

This can be fully remote, hybrid or studio based.

Within this role you will:

  • Create prototypes for developing new gameplay ideas and features

  • Implement design tasks to a high standard in conjunction with art, code and production

  • Design and implement innovative game systems

  • Build tools and design systems to enhance or simplify creative work processes

  • Develop and oversee the implementation of technical design standards across the team

  • Review, tweak and balance gameplay

  • Contribute to game concept creation

To be successful you will need to have:

  • Must have a minimum of 2+ years production working within the game industry

  • Technically proficient across multiple game engines (e.g. UE4, Unity or custom)

  • Strong knowledge of game and level design principles

  • Good knowledge of C++ and Blueprints

  • Understanding of optimization and technical limitations

  • A passion for cutting edge game technology

The Chinese Room is located in Brighton in the south of England, home to an amazingly vibrant game development scene and a cultural hotspot with fantastic food, arts, music, shopping and sports. The studio is in the city centre, near the beach, and close to the South Downs National Park. Gatwick Airport is only half an hour away from train, and you can be in central London in just over an hour. It’s an easy place to love!
