The function of the department begins with the Director’s vision for the student community. Specifically, the Director’s function is to provide managerial oversight to the Fitness Center, Recreational Sports, Intramural Sport and Club Sports. The Director will ensure that facilities are well-maintained, safe, and responsive to the changing needs of students; the programs and services are conducive to the formation of community, foster individual student responsibility, and promote the engagement of students in the academic, spiritual, and personal development realms of campus life. The Director Fitness, Sports and Recreation will provide vision, direction and leadership for a variety of both traditional and innovative fitness, recreation, intramural and club sport programs and services. The Director will engage an active student body and enhance and promote growth for a healthy and balanced campus environment. Oversee the intramural club sport design, operation, and evaluation process.

Responsibilities

Use best practices and national trends to design, develop and administer a strategic and comprehensive approach to student fitness. Evaluate and establish positive and purposeful initiatives in order to promote and foster a healthy, engaged and ever-changing student community. Ensure fundamental Policies and Procedures are established, organized and communicated effectively to the campus community. Perform as a professional educator and role model to enable students to learn and utilize fitness programs and equipment. Create an educational environment addressing fitness design, goals and objectives. Ensure compliance with national, local, university, fitness field, laws, regulations, standards and codes. Produce, implement and evaluate the success and satisfaction of the recreational sports and fitness area through assessment.

Oversee and lead the intramural, club sport, recreation and Esports vision and design through key planning, implementation and evaluation. Oversee the programming, operations, policies and processes.

Strategically and annually plan next steps needed to support and update all programming; through a holistic wellness and community based objective. Maintain a club sports manual and advise club leaders of the policies and procedures for funding, travel, and events through regular communication. Create and oversee the recruiting process and complete all hiring paperwork and contracts for club sport and Esports coaches. Increase the organization of and student participation numbers for the Program by continued development of the space, teams, and events. Increase student community opportunities and recreation programming. Ensure compliance with national, local, university, intramural and club sport laws, regulations, standards and codes.

Ensure the ongoing maintenance and safety of the facilities and equipment for optimal access and use. Propose and execute marketing strategies for reaching undergraduates and graduates through a variety of methods. Include marketing that is matched to both the age and interest of college undergraduates and graduates so that the environment is positively enhanced by this marketing. Overseer training and supervision.

Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree plus four (4) years of experience in a fitness or recreation related position required. Experience in higher education preferred. Certification in First Aid, CPR, and AED use required.
