When it comes to determining what games to write for, you'll want to consider three major factors: Recency, Prominence, and Guide Potential.

  • Recency - The more recent it is, the better. We likely won't green light guides for games that came out more than six months ago, unless they're in the news again for some reason (e.g. a big update, a special edition).
  • Prominence - Do a lot of people know about the game? You'll want to use your best judgment here, but it's likely you already have a good understanding of what's popular.
  • Guide Potential - Will people search for guides about this game? What guides would people search for? Why? Are there complex mechanics, hidden items, or secret levels that people will want to know about? Are there collectibles that earn achievements?

Nine times out of ten, if it's a big-name release that's coming out soon, we'll want guides for it. That hits the sweet spot between Recency and Prominence, so people will be searching for these games. That doesn't mean it has to be AAA, either. If it's a high-profile indie game, that can work, too (for example, Hades). However, you'll also want to ensure this game has Guide Potential.
