Talofa Games is looking for a highly talented, motivated and experienced Lead Game Designer for a new multiplayer running game. The Lead Game Designer collaborates with design, engineering, and animation teams to create a fun and immersive running experience that fulfills the creative vision and desired gaming experiences.

How do you make something as painful and intimidating as running fun? We're working on an augmented reality fitness running game that will help promote physical and mental wellbeing and have been working on independent games for the last 10 years! We'd love to work with you to reimagine how interactive stories can unfold over the course of a workout and how augmented audio experiences can help motivate and encourage otherwise painful exercise.

The characters you meet in the game can be your new friends, romantic partners, or enemies, so we want to work with you to build and flesh out these character personalities and quirks and give them a real voice! We want to build a rich universe for fitness that has a touch of comedy and lightheartedness. Working in the intersection of fitness and gaming, we want to find a designer who understands the basics of fitness game mechanics, and motivational design and how to weave in an interesting story in the gaps.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with the content team to develop gameplay features that will support and convey the story over the course of a workout.
  • Design systems to integrate voice acting, narrative, and branching narrative in a fitness context.
  • Rapidly prototype gameplay systems within the engine to test out new ideas, gameplay systems, and modes
  • Understand the high level vision of the game and be able to translate the vision into location-based gameplay systems designed that can be used by everyone to build all of the experiences in the game
  • Give critical feedback to the rest of the team on all aspects of the game.

Requirements:

  • 3+ years of experience in game design, with at least 2 years in a management or lead role.
  • Strong familiarity with modern fictional storytelling, content delivery, and live games and the best practices therein.
  • Experience running or using gamified fitness products
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong empathy for your coworkers and players.
  • Great creative writing abilities
  • Bonus for experience with Unity
  • Exposure to AR/VR environments and applications

What we're looking for:

We're huge gamers and fitness geeks! That said, we'd love to work with someone who has written for a game (a plus) or worked with voice actors before, and someone with experience writing scripts and narratives since the game is dialogue-heavy. Being passionate about fitness and games is also a plus! Familiarity with RPG games and branching narrative systems or the dating simulator game genre is a huge plus too!

Our Team:

Everyone on our team has been an avid long distance runner for the last 10 years and are gaming enthusiasts! Together, we’ve created independent games for the last 10 years with over 9.1 million downloads on the Apple App and Google Play Stores. We’re now working in the augmented reality and fitness intersection and are award winning developers. This is a first of its kind social running game and we’re excited to be working together on it!
