The Role:
The Technical Art Director will be responsible for research, innovation, technical quality of the production, assure technical support to team members across all departments but with a focus on the Art Team, guide and assist them in the best practices possible.
Here's what you will be doing:
- Define and promote what the Next Generation Mobile, PC and Console AAA experience will be. Make this vision happen.
- Define the technology that is the most adapted to the project; understand the engine, the middleware and their constraints.
- Put in place and document the graphic production pipeline (modelling, animation, characters, lighting, SFX, etc..) and assure the follow-up;
- With the team, help manage the development progress and identify the development tasks and time estimates.
- Ensure that the game is being built with the right methodology and best practices, tech briefs, keeping in mind long term quality and potential future tool sharing
- Identify project risks and the contingency plans to put in place with the team
- Propose and develop the best tools and dev processes to guarantee the teamβs efficiency.
- Ensuring the technology completion and success of each milestone targets.
- Show exemplary commitment and communication style, even in critical situations.
- Communicate the project plan to the team on a regular basis.
- Take the role of the coach: inspire, motivate rather than direct.
- Propose solutions to improve the development of the project tools at the studio.
- Identify and promote the application of best ideas.
- Share constructive experience internally and externally in the Group.
To do this job, you will need:
- At least 10 years experience preferably in games
- At least 3 shipped titles.
- Able to articulate a strong vision of technology as a means to customer value
- Relevant experience working on multi-platform AAA titles, current and next-gen consoles.
- Deep technical understanding of Unity's shader pipeline, PBR, Lighting (GI, Baking, AO), Post-Process Effects, VFX, Animation states/re-targeting, UI, and physics system.
- Find ways to realize, and implement visual goals set for the game within Unity.
- Define development pipelines for best practices, and efficiency for the game being developed.
- Good artistic eye for visual goals set forth, and how to technically achieve them.
- Work with engineering to optimize the game while maintaining the highest level of visual fidelity possible.
- Expert Technical Knowledge of the Unity Engine and Platform
- Fundamental knowledge of 3D authoring software such as Maya
- Able to articulate a strong vision of technology as a means to customer value
While not required, below are nice to have:
- Experience with other engines such as Unreal etc.
