The Role:
As a Senior Environment Artist, you will work as a key member of the art team to create high quality, modular and detailed environment models. These assets will be based on game requirements, technical capabilities of the gaming platforms and any other factors determined in collaboration with the team that best fit the pipeline that you will help develop. The ideal candidate should be constantly envisioning the experience of the end user and actively proposing and developing features that enhance the overall experience. You will play a critical role in helping to define the look and feel of new biomes and environments by generating a range of botanical, landscape, and architectural assets, working closely with your peers to develop beautiful and compelling player-focus experiences.
Here's what you will be doing:
- Translate approved concept art into 3D elements of gameplay and cinematic spaces.
- Work closely with production and narrative designs to build world geometry from rough blockout to highly polished, engaging gameplay spaces.
- Contribute ideas on how to engage and delight our players through how they experience the worlds and environments of our newest IP.
- Assemble spaces using a combination of pre-existing modular kit pieces and bespoke, custom set pieces (including associated modelling, UV and Shader work, technical setup, etc.).
- Work closely with our lighting artists to build environments and lighting that support the intended player experience.
- Polish gameplay environments with tasteful creation and deployment placement of set dressing, decals, devices and dynamic objects, etc.
- Elevate the artistic and technical skills of the department by proactively identifying opportunities for the team to incorporate next-gen tools, workflows, and techniques.
- Support the sharing and documentation of best practices for modern environment art creation in collaboration with key stakeholders across departments.
- Engage with the larger environment art team to provide gameplay and visual feedback.
To do this job, you will need:
- Portfolio of work demonstrating the ability to execute a broad range of AAA organic and hard-surface environment models, textures, and materials.
- Expert knowledge of key artistic principles like colour theory, form design, detail hierarchy, and spatial composition.
- Efficient communication and strong collaboration skills.
- Robust understanding of light, value, composition, colour, staging and detail in environmental design.
- To be a great team player, able to communicate, collaborate, teach, and learn from co-workers all over the world.
- Understanding of how the environment affects game play
- High level of proficiency in contemporary game dev software (Photoshop, Maya, Max, Zbrush, Substance Designer, and other 2D/3D applications)
While not required, below are nice to have:
- 3+ years of experience in the industry.
- Experience working with external art vendors.
- Experience with modular environmental systems.
- Experience with Unreal 4 or Unity.
