System Era is looking for a full-time animator to help bring Astroneer to life by creating beautiful animations for both organic and mechanical assets. Using fundamental animation principles to demonstrate a solid grasp of weight and motion while also being aware of various constraints is a key aspect of this role.
Reporting directly to the lead animator, you will contribute to the artistic vision and assist in realizing the games animated visual style through both the gameplay and marketing animations. This includes skinning and weighting meshes as well as working with existing rigs and creating new ones with the support from the discipline leads.

Due to COVID-19, the System Era team is currently working remotely and this position will begin with remotely as well. Once the team is able to safely return to our Seattle office, continued full or part-time remote options may be discussed. Responsibilities:
- Animate both characters and objects while adhering to the Astroneer art style for both gameplay and marketing animations.
- Create new skeletons and skin new assets for animation.
- Actively participate in regular playtests and provide feedback about the experience.
- Regularly contribute to creative and planning conversations.
Qualifications:
- Solid grasp of animation principles.
- Proficient with Maya, Max, or equivalent programs.
- Self-motivated, strong communication skills and capable of problem-solving creative challenges.
- 3-5 years' experience as animator in the games industry.
- Understanding of skeleton creation and skinning for animations.
- Comfortable working in a small team and taking on a wide variety of tasks.
Nice to haves:
- Experience working with Unreal Engine 4.
- Experience compositing in After Effects or Premier.
- Experience with Unreal Engine’s Sequencer.
- Experience modeling 3D assets.
