Supermassive Games are looking for a highly talented and experienced Art Director to play a key role on The Dark Pictures Anthology.

Reporting to the Executive Producer for the franchise, you will work closely with the game direction teams to define, direct and achieve the aims for the visual quality and style of The Dark Pictures.

Key skills and Responsibilities:

  • You will be responsible for the visual aspects of all of The Dark Pictures projects.
  • Already a master of visual language, you will be well versed in how to create atmosphere with form, colour, light and contrast, with a particular adeptness for cinematography and storytelling with the moving image.
  • You will have a high level technical understanding of current real time rendering techniques and practices – and be able to harness that knowledge into developing production ready pipelines and workflows that deliver fantastic artistic results in an efficient manner and make the best out of the available development resources.
  • You will provide leadership and guidance for our team of talented artists, and those of our external partners - able to both encourage and mentor staff to bring out their best work, but also to be resolute in safeguarding the direction and key artistic pillars that give the franchise its visual identity.
  • You will have a keen eye on technical advances and improvements in the video game, film and VFX industries.

Requirements

Experience:

  • Significant experience as an artist in the games industry, working on multiple AAA titles.
  • Previous experience of directing art teams to a proven high level of quality.
  • A portfolio which demonstrates your personal ability to present compelling worlds, scenes and characters cinematically, with striking art that leaps off the screen.
  • In-depth understanding and practical experience of 3D modelling, lighting and cinematography in games is essential, along with a good understanding of other areas of game art, such as Concept Art, Production Design, VFX or Presentation Art.

Technical Skills/Knowledge:

  • In-depth knowledge of the latest game art pipelines, techniques and tools, including Maya (or equivalent modelling package) and one or more of Substance Painter/Designer, Photoshop, After Effects, ZBrush (or equivalent sculpting tool) or Houdini.
  • Experience using Unreal Engine would be an advantage, but not a necessity.

  • Be able to concisely put into words an artistic idea or concept and explain why it works in a given situation.
  • Work closely with colleagues across all visual disciplines, having a good understanding of what the possibilities and limitations are of each.
  • Collaborate with other discipline directors, game directors and department leads, with a sensitivity to what other key stakeholders are aiming to achieve, and a drive to see it to fruition.
  • Be passionate and driven.
  • Be able to work well under pressure and stay calm in challenging circumstances.
