Sunblink is a new game studio located in Boulder, CO founded by three industry veterans who have been making hit games for the last 15 years. Together, we have created and managed some of the highest grossing and most downloaded games of the last decade. We are an intensely creative shop working on two well-funded real-time multiplayer games, one of which is based on original IP (launching Summer 2022) and the other leveraging one of the largest and most beloved entertainment brands in the world (launching Spring 2023). We’re looking for the best folks in the industry who share our passion for creating impactful and fun experiences that players will love for years to come.

As a Senior Environment Artist at Sunblink you will bring life to unforgettable environments that will be enjoyed by millions of gamers across the world by helping to craft and set the visual tone for our newest project. Reporting to the Art Director and working closely with many members of the team, you will be building out assets that help define the charm and life we want to bring to our world as well as develop a strong pipeline that other team members can use to maximize their workflow. You're the type of person who enjoys working on a highly collaborative team with the ability to make your mark on a project. We aren’t looking for just another artist but one who is passionate about making the best game and world possible, together as a team.

An ideal candidate has experience shipping games on a variety of platforms, preferably with mobile/console experience creating a high-end stylized approach to building art .

This job is based in Boulder, CO, but we are open to permanently remote candidates.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Art Director and other key team members to bring to life a beautiful, wholesome, and charming world
  • Use your industry-honed abilities in content generation to assist in developing an efficient and sustainable environment art pipeline
  • Help to set, keep, and advocate for the quality of all environment art
  • Use your strong knowledge of layout and composition to create an infinitely explorable world
  • Work with Engineering and Tech Art to support and improve the environment art pipeline
  • Create a wide variety of environment assets including terrain, architecture, vegetation, props, and more
  • Produce assets in our unique style using industry standard tools and integrate them in Unity
  • Be a self starter that can work independently and take ownership of their tasks and role on the team
  • Use lighting and post-processing effects to achieve a high and consistent quality level
  • Understand what makes environment art so important and convey that in your work to build memorable places and assets that help tell a story to our players

Qualifications

  • 5+ years professional experience modeling and texturing environments using Maya, Zbrush, Photoshop, and Substance Designer/Painter. (or equivalent 3D and 2D programs)
  • Well-versed in Unity with a deep understanding of the URP including lighting modes and post processing stack
  • Strong communication skills
  • Keen eye for color, form, lighting, scene layout, and composition
  • Well rounded environment artist with a strong knowledge of what makes shapes fun, whimsical, and charming
  • In-depth knowledge of sculpting stylized organic and hard surface 3D assets
  • Can build and work within asset budgets developed alongside Tech and Design
  • Positive attitude with a passion to collaborate and bring new ideas to the team and game
