The role @ Sumo

Sumo Leamington have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Technical Character Artist to come and join the team!

Working with the Art and Engineering teams, you will develop character pipelines for character customisation systems. You will also support the work of the character artists by creating best technical practices whilst also taking character assets through every stage from sculpting, retopology, UV's, baking maps, skinning and setting up in engine.

To be successful you will have:

  • In depth knowledge of character creation methods
  • Software skills in Maya, ZBrush, Painter and photoshop
  • Experience of working with and developing character customisation systems
  • Experience of adding skin weights to rigs
  • Experience of working with and creating blendshapes
  • Understanding of what makes good topology for deformation
  • Desirable – experience of creating rigs

What do we want from you?

  • A passion for working with characters and implementing them in game
  • Strong problem-solving skills, able to offer artistic solutions to technical challenges
  • Able to work independently
  • Solid knowledge of platform limitations from PC to mobile devices
  • Experience with animation is a plus but not required
  • A good understanding of anatomy, proportion and colour
