The Role @ Sumo Newcastle

Sumo Digital has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior Environment Artist at our Newcastle studio. We are looking for a world-class artist with a wealth of experience in driving quality standards on AAA console titles.

Reporting to the Lead Environment Artist, you will work within a highly experienced and skilled team which is open and very team orientated. You will become a fully integral part of the team and will have the opportunity to help guide and steer the team with the skills, knowledge and experience you bring. This is an incredible opportunity to shape some of the most exciting and groundbreaking video games currently being made in the UK.

This position is open to remote, hybrid and in-studio working.

Responsibilities:

  • You will be responsible for creating high-quality environment art,
  • Have a keen eye for level design and a strong ability to communicate ideas and collaborate with a design team,
  • You will take on ownership of levels/maps, making content and delegating to a small team of artists to ensure the content is cohesive and delivered on time,
  • Should be able to mentor and work well with others,
  • Proactively seek feedback from Lead Artists & Creative Directors,
  • Ensure that the artistic style of the game is consistently implemented,
  • Share your passion for art and help leads set the quality bar on the project.

Experience and Skills:

  • A minimum of 5 years production experience, working within the games industry,
  • Proven track record in at least 2 shipped titles (preferably AAA),
  • Excellent 3D art skills,
  • Excellent compositional skills and all-around artistic expertise and flare,
  • Expertise in 3ds Max, Zbrush, Substance Painter / Designer, Photoshop & other technologies utilized in the production of game art
  • Expertise in Unreal Engine 4,
  • High levels of aesthetic attention to detail,
  • Familiarity working and developing in a multi-platform, multi-project environment,
  • Strong technical background with the ability to grasp new programs and systems quickly,
  • Eagerness to learn new software tools and technologies,
  • Have a desire to maintain and keep up with trends/ workflows in the game art space outside of core hours,
  • Able to work with a high level of motivation & self-direction,
  • Strong communication and organisational skills (Have a desire to maintain and keep up excellent file management and clean working files),
  • Excellent time management and problem-solving skills,
  • Self-motivated and agile.
