Striking Distance Studios continues to grow. We are looking for talented developers with experience working on large-scale, live service games to join us in our San Ramon studio.

What we need:

Striking Distance Studios is seeking an experienced Technical Director to provide technical direction and leadership for the engineering team on a AAA title based in the PUBG universe.

Responsibilities:

  • Identify technical risks on projects and develop contingency plans to put into place with the team
  • Interface with Design and Art Directors to identify trends in the gaming industry and adapt to quickly implement features which are key to improving and enhancing the game
  • Evaluate both internal and external technology solutions to make informed recommendations for adoption, revision, and maintenance of required technology
  • Maintain and improve overall code quality, ensuring that code is cross-platform, reusable, and testable
  • Manage internal and external technology dependencies and risks, and create contingency plans for all critical path technologies
  • Work with the production team to revise and validate engineering estimates and production plans
  • Keep current with technology advances and propose new innovations that may benefit the project
  • Provide mentorship, troubleshooting, debugging and problem-solving assistance to members of the Engineering Team
  • Foster a culture of open, honest, and respectful communication across all disciplines

Qualifications:

  • Experience with extending and modifying Unreal Engine.
  • At least 7 years of leadership experience in the Game Industry and preferably 2 years or more in a similar role.
  • A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or relevant work experience,
  • Exceptional management and communication skills.
  • A good knowledge of programming languages and software engineering practices.
  • Experience developing AAA titles on multiple console platforms.
  • Experience bringing multiple game titles to ship and beyond.
  • Experience working on a AAA game engine and full understanding of its architecture.
  • Expertise with the C / C++ programming language
