ABOUT YOU:
We are looking for people that believe in collective code ownership, that a story isnβt done until there are tests written, and are open to mentoring and being mentored. We have multiple product teams and software services in development with interesting tech problems to solve. If the opportunity to stretch yourself and learn new skills, to have collaborative, constructive conversations with other engineers, designers, and product managers about how to better our code and products, and the belief that all code is unit testable sounds good then this might be the place for you.
As a Lead Software Engineer you will be responsible for taking our gaming software platform, SteelSeries GG to the next level. An ideal candidate is a data-minded full stack engineer that has experience architecting and deploying web infrastructure, has experience developing web and/or desktop applications, and has a serious passion for technology, product development, and gaming.
NECESSARY SKILLS:
- 7+ years of experience in full stack software engineering
- Experience standing up and scaling web infrastructure on AWS or Azure
- Experience designing and building distributed systems
- A desire to mentor and elevate fellow engineers
- Eagerness to continuously learn and excel in the craft of software engineering
WITHIN 1 MONTH YOU WILL:
- Come up to speed with our tech stack. Our web and desktop back ends are predominantly written in Go. Our desktop front end is built with the React framework.
- Ship a new feature for SteelSeries GG
WITHIN 3 MONTHS YOU WILL:
- Begin to scale our GG platform to support a community of millions of gamers
- Continue to innovate and add features to SteelSeries GG
- Play with and give feedback on unannounced hardware products coming out next year
WITHIN 6 MONTHS YOU WILL:
- Act as a true full stack engineer by architecting and developing user and community software features for the SteelSeries GG platform
- Proactively refactor code to achieve a perpetually clean design that has adequate test coverage
- Evaluate new programming languages, frameworks, and tools and propose when they should be integrated and/or migrated to
- Work across software teams to educate others on best practices for code, test, and documentation quality

This position is located in our office in downtown Chicago, but remote hires will also be considered. Note, due to COVID-19, we have been operating fully remote since March 2020.
