At Statespace we’re using cognitive science, artificial intelligence, and video games to revolutionize the way that humans improve.
Our first product (Aim Lab) is a personalized, AI-powered analytics and training platform for competitive gamers and Esports athletes. Aim Lab has well over a million users and the best user community in the whole wide world (we may be biased).
Our team consists of scientists, designers, engineers, and game industry vets coming together from places like NYU, MTV, NASA, Yale, Nintendo, and the NFL. We are well-funded and supported by some of the world’s best investors and entrepreneurs, including Khosla Ventures, FirstMark Capital, Lux Capital, Expa Capital, and WndrCo.

We are based in NYC but have a remote work culture and are looking for exceptional people to join our team regardless of their physical location.
We value performance, not hours worked (or when you work them). We believe you shouldn’t have to miss your kid’s play or doctor’s appointment for the sake of adhering to an arbitrary work schedule. However, if you are looking for a job where you are happy to just collect a nice paycheck and/or nap under your desk like George Costanza, we are not the right fit for you (we don’t even have desks).

The Data Scientist/ML Engineer Role
Data is at the very core of our product and business. Gamers need better performance insights to improve at esports and it’s our mission to provide it to them. As a Data Scientist / Machine Learning Engineer, you’ll have the opportunity to work alongside us every day, analyzing an incredibly rich and unique dataset. Projects will predominantly involve working with our Chief Scientist modeling time-series data and building production-ready predictive models that will greatly impact our product. We’re looking for a mathematical and machine learning expert that knows Python like the back of their hand. Experience in modelling psychophysical data and deploying cloud-based machine learning models would be a bonus.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Chief Scientist to scope R&D initiatives into tangible data science projects
- Manage high-dimensional datasets, including using clustering and dimensionality reduction
- Clean and wrangle data from a heterogeneous mix of sources
- Modeling biometric time-series data
- Training and validating classification algorithms
- Work closely with the data team to create and maintain data pipelines for scalable reporting and productionized models
Ideal Skills
- Proficiency with Python and the scientific Python suite (numpy, pandas, sci-kit-learn, matplotlib, Jupyter notebooks)
- A solid foundation in statistics (probability distributions, maximum likelihood estimation)
- Familiarity with Postgres or another flavor of SQL
- Familiarity with deep learning (TensorFlow, Keras, or PyTorch)
- Familiarity with Matlab
- Familiarity with deploying cloud-based machine learning algorithms
- Familiarity working with biometric data
- Familiarity with psychophysics
