Primary Purpose

To coach and manage the eSports program.

Description of Duties and tasks

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
1. Coach, Coordinate, and Supervise eSports program (50% of Time)
1.1 Coach the eSports team, providing guidance to players' academic and athletic experience.
1.2 Recruit student athletes to join the team to complete a full roster (40), which is necessary to compete in the determined governing body each academic year.
1.3 Assign athletic waivers/grants to eligible student athletes.
1.4 Manage the budget associated with the program.
1.5 Determine student eligibility for participation.
1.6 Monitor student athletes' academic progress, providing appropriate academic supervision to ensure student success and completion of degree or certificate requirements.
1.7 Make travel arrangements for away contests and matches if necessary.
1.8 Develop home and away participation schedules and expectations if necessary.

2. General Duties (50% of Time)
2.1 Ensure compliance with all rules, regulations, and policies outlined in the Southwestern Athletic Department Coaches Handbook and by the eSports governing body.
2.2 Demonstrate continued professional growth by staying current in and expanding knowledge of eSports coaching techniques through a plan of professional development.
2.3 Attend scheduled athletic contests, attend professional conferences and required institutional meetings, assist with game management as necessary and other duties as assigned.
2.4 Support College leadership in developing departmental goals and objectives as part of the institution's continuous improvement cycle; includes participating in the college wide accreditation process by preforming departmental planning, assessment, and improvement to meet core theme objectives and contribute to mission fulfillment.
3. Performs Other Duties and Special Projects as Required/Assigned

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
A minimum of an Associate's Degree in CIS, related field, or in specific academic areas related to coaching, esports, etc.

A minimum of one (1) year coaching eSports.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, using the English language with or without the use of an interpreter.
  • Ability to effectively communicate orally with groups and/or individual, and deal with peers, the public and the community in a positive, empathetic and professional manner.
  • Ability to consistently convey a pleasant and helpful attitude by using excellent interpersonal and communication skills to control sometimes stressful and emotional situations. Requires sufficient communication and human relations skills to resolve complaints/issues, defuse anger, and gain cooperation.
  • Working knowledge of and a commitment to intercollegiate eSports rules and regulations. Demonstrated success in recruiting a full roster of athletes specifically for collegiate level eSports programs.
  • Ability to follow established procedures and work independently to accomplish those procedures.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and carry out activities independently. Strong time management skills to support efficient work production and meet deadlines.
  • Ability and willingness to manage a flexible work schedule with self-discipline, including travel, various hours and possible weekends/evenings, as well as work days at other College locations.
  • Exhibit a high level of technology literacy, including knowledge of retail systems and computer software and hardware. Ability to use internet searching, Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel as needed. Able to learn and function in the College's information management system and learn new software as needed.
  • Ability to model and ensure diversity and cultural competency (respect, inclusiveness, reflecting, valuing, and welcoming cultural differences) in all position responsibilities regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, gender, social class, sexual orientation, ability, nationality, age, language, origin, or employment status. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Applicants for this position possessing one or more of the following knowledge, skills and abilities with receive preferred consideration through the selection process.

Demonstrated success in coaching adult student-athletes.

Demonstrated success in coaching eSports at the College level.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS OR LICENSES:

A valid Oregon driver's license (or able to obtain).

WORKING CONDITIONS

Primarily indoor work environment. The work environment has regular (40-60%) hazards or obstacles. There is some personal risk. Job conditions are somewhat uncomfortable due to varying work environments; outside job tasks; inclement weather; exposure to chemicals; machinery; electricity; or individuals of unpredictable, possibly harmful intent, etc. Work that is somewhat physically demanding, which creates a possible risk, is placed at this level.

The position regularly (40-60%) requires moderate physical effort and manual labor such as carrying, constant movement, frequent lifting of light items, and some lifting of moderately heavy objects. Current work environment may require the employee to reach, bend, lift, stoop, crouch, and perform similar movements. The position requires some lifting up to 35 pounds, unassisted.

This rating also includes job situations where a high degree of speed, agility, and hand/eye coordination are important. Processing information using computer methods and technology for more than 80% of work time is necessary. All individuals are required to perform these movements without a significant risk of injury, with or without accommodation, or to otherwise demonstrate or explain how they can perform the essential functions listed above.

Attendance at various meetings may require work after normal business hours and moderate travel.
