Your Platform

Located in the San Francisco Bay Area and Melbourne, Australia – we’re the videogame development team behind Call of Duty®: Modern Warfare 3, Call of Duty®: Advanced Warfare and Call of Duty®: WWII. Since our founding in 2009, our greatest passion has been making AAA games. The strength of our team makes us not only excellent at what we do, but also how we do it. We firmly believe in supporting our talented employees to be the best they can be. Here at Sledgehammer Games, everyone is a game maker.

As we head into decade II of development, we’re focused on constantly evolving, innovating and taking risks – which are some of the most rewarding aspects of game development. With world-class audio, design, engineering and art teams, we’ve been able to achieve some of the highest-quality game execution of any studio in the industry. We love what we do and work hard to make sure that each new game we make is even better than the last. Creativity is key, and we’re looking for talented game developers for our exciting next project.

Sledgehammer Games is wholly owned by Activision.

Your Mission

As a Senior Technical Designer, you will be a vital connection between Design and Engineering. You will be able to communicate and engage with both disciplines “in their language.” Technical Designers should have experience with a wide variety of scripting languages and game engines and should be comfortable learning “on the fly.” Technical Designers should be able to absorb a large scripting base quickly and use that knowledge to inform and empower other designers.

Priorities can often change in a fast-paced environment like ours, so this role includes, but is not limited to, the following responsibilities:

  • Work closely with designers, engineers, and other content creators to create compelling gameplay systems
  • Solve complicated problems creatively while considering design needs versus production realities
  • Drive gameplay systems from paper concepts all the way to shippable products
  • Rapidly prototype and iterate on experimental gameplay in order to “find the fun”
  • Act autonomously to track down issues or improvement areas and implement novel solutions
  • Help develop and maintain a robust set of scripting solutions that empower content designers
  • Mentor designers and other developers on scripting standards and best practices

Player Profile

Minimum Requirements:

  • 7+ years game industry experience with at least one shipped title
  • Experience with several different scripting languages (Python, Java, C#, Lua)
  • Solid understanding of gameplay mechanics and the game design process
  • Passion for designing systems, mechanics, and meta-game loops
  • Excellent written, verbal, and electronic communication skills

Extra Points:

  • Technical degree or work experience in a technical design role
  • Experience with multiple game engines
  • Ability to read and understand C++
  • Experience with Unreal Engine or node-based scripting editors/interfaces.
  • Experience scripting complex animated sequences
