We are a strategy first brand design agency with decades of experience spanning startups to fortune 500 companies in entertainment, lifestyle, and tech. We're looking for a hybrid designer that combines the experiential insight of game design with the cultural awareness and storytelling capabilities of a brand creative. SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:

As a Senior Game and Brand Experience Designer, you are a visionary storyteller that sees games as a platform for brands to engage their fans. You will lead the strategic creative on a program or project, working with creative teams at all levels to bring concepts to life. You will collaborate with art directors, program managers, and directly with clients to set the approach to delivering ideas and solutions. As a creative lead, this role drives design innovation, delivers on quality, and prioritizes our clients and their audience’s needs.

You have impeccable attention to detail, a deep awareness of essential game behaviors and mechanics, bring a unique design POV to Skylight, and will direct and mentor the team to develop inspiring and innovative design strategies with world class quality.

You are a strong and diverse conceptual thinker, critical problem solver, and storyteller. You guide design, copywriting, and extended collaborators (illustrators, photographers, etc.) to bring holistic concepts to life beautifully.

You shepherd the creation and delivery of both internal and client presentations, developing content with a focus on storytelling and strategic rationale while confidently presenting ideas. You provide clear direction to the design and strategy teams, actively listening and inspiring collaboration. You lead on crafting both conceptual and rational copy, for any given project.

You naturally build lasting relationships with clients promoting organic growth. You are a dedicated and enthusiastic partner, ensuring that Skylight is the best part of a client’s day. You are committed to expertise in our client's categories, challenges and needs. You deeply appreciate and understand what motivates our client's fans, and function as an essential collaborator and extension of our client's teams. You have a passion for gaming, with an understanding of the industry, market and target audiences.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Define game-play mechanics, player experience, and coordinate with creative and development partners to ensure a quality experience within the appropriate scope.
  • Visualize what our clients need based on the context of their brand, who they are competing with for their fan’s attention, and what their fans want and need.
  • Collaborate closely with program managers and account leads to ensure efficient and effective creative development.
  • Elevate strategic thinking with cultural, consumer, and marketplace insights.
  • Partner with strategic leads at key moments during insight and strategy development.

SKILLS:

  • Deep understanding and appreciation for the role of design thinking.
  • Active knowledge and expertise in how games work and the gaming space.
  • Expert brand design skills (marks, type, color, composition).
  • Experience with photo, illustration, publishing and presentation software and relevant tools.
  • Ability to guide and mentor teams of creatives.
  • Expert brand storyteller, regardless of medium.

WHAT YOU BRING TO SKYLIGHT:

  • 7+ years design experience (agency or internal brand team).
  • 2+ years of experience leading a creative team.
  • You are an expert at communications – effectively getting complex ideas across in an easy to understand manner, and hearing what others around you are saying.
  • Comfort with regularly interfacing directly with clients and presenting work.
  • Game design experience with a passion for the gaming and entertainment category and gaming innovation.
  • Portfolio of recognized work (ideally entertainment or videogame brands).
  • A strong sense of composition, color, and design, and adept at the quality bar of globally recognized entertainment (videogame, streaming, film), technology and lifestyle brands.
  • Ability to cultivate and solidify relationships with both client and internal teams.
  • Work ethic focused on dynamism and collaborative nature; ability to perform multiple tasks, prioritize and solve problems.
  • Proven problem-solving abilities.
  • Healthy sense of ambition.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Illustration, Painting, design, advertising, art direction, a related field, or equivalent experience.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

This position has supervisory responsibilities.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Due to the pandemic, we are currently operating in a WFH configuration. It is possible that in the future (2022) we will shift to a hybrid model.

POSITION TYPE AND EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK:

This is a full-time exempt position. Typical days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, between the hours of 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. or as scheduled by management.

TRAVEL:

Limited travel may be required as necessary for the role.

WORK AUTHORIZATION/SECURITY CLEARANCE:

US citizenship evidenced via current I-9 process.
