We are a strategy first brand design agency with decades of experience spanning startups, fortune 500 companies in entertainment, lifestyle, and tech. We're looking for a masterful Concept Artist who appreciates a great story and believes that videogames are the future of the interactive entertainment industry. Videogame industry experience is a bonus, knowledge and passion for using art to tell rich and compelling stories is a requirement.

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:

As a Concept Artist you will help us deliver best-in-class campaign and Key Art. You are inspired by client needs, consumer expectations, and trends in image based storytelling. This role helps visualize and communicate our big ideas for Key Art, Campaign Art, Storyboards and Game Development.

You will work closely with Creative Directors and Art Directors to bring ideas to life. The Concept Artist draws and paints characters, environments, graphics, vehicles, tools, or anything else that is required for a given project. Working collaboratively through loose thumbnails, revisions and feedback to help us refine towards presentation level work.

You combine artistic talent with technology, artistry with rigor, the familiar with the fantastic. From the language of color to the hand drawn and photo-real, you bring ideas to life through the use of movement, storytelling and timing. You will collaborate with creative leads, but will also be expected to be a critical thinker who can work autonomously in a fast paced environment to deliver an extremely high level of work. You’re comfortable working with clients, have a keen eye for detail, excellent communication skills and technical knowledge. Relevant entertainment and lifestyle industry experience and category interest is a must.

You have impeccable attention to detail, and are a master of foundational art principles, like light, shadow, composition, contrast, perspective, etc. Your range as a conceptual thinker and storyteller helps to clarify the vision we need to bring large concepts to life beautifully. Elevating our content quality with cultural, consumer and marketplace trends and insights. You will partner with creative leads at key moments during creative development. By staying ahead of trends in both tools and the competitive landscape, our Concept Artist helps ensure visual directions will lead to culture-shifting creative.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Visualize what our clients need based on the context of their brand, who they are competing with for their fan’s attention and what their fans want and need.
  • Collaborate closely with program managers and account leads to ensure efficient and effective creative development.

SKILLS:

  • Primary requirement is world class illustration.
  • Practice grounded in design thinking.
  • Exceptional art skills (color theory, composition, perspective, contrast and lighting).
  • Expert knowledge of high-level image making.
  • Deep knowledge of art history.
  • Expertise in life drawing, anatomy and how bodies move.
  • Pro-active learner, spotting trends and helping our studio deliver what tomorrow will demand.
  • Expert brand storyteller, regardless of medium.
  • Interest in any of the following: theater, fashion, photography, contemporary art, industrial design, life drawing and innovation is a plus.

WHAT YOU BRING TO SKYLIGHT:

  • 4 + years of relevant experience at a design agency or globally recognized in-house brand team.
  • You are an expert at communications – effectively getting your ideas across and hearing what others around you are saying.
  • Portfolio of recognized work (entertainment or videogame brands a plus).
  • Comfortable interfacing directly with client’s art teams.
  • Proven problem-solving abilities.
  • Healthy sense of ambition.
  • Passionate about art making, with a great attitude and excitement for continued learning.
  • Developed artistic senses. A good eye and masterful understanding of photo, 3D or illustration based image making including knowledge of color, light (reflection, refraction, shadows), perspective, and composition. Able to see and understand why something may or may not “Look right.”
  • Comfort with the unknown; ability to work with complex challenges to distill and illuminate smart solutions that resonate with our clients and their people.
  • A strong sense of compositing, color, and design, and adept at the quality bar of globally recognized entertainment (videogame, streaming, film), technology and lifestyle brands.
  • Interest in image production pipeline is a plus.
  • Work ethic focused on dynamism and collaborative nature; ability to perform multiple tasks, prioritize and solve problems.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Illustration, Painting, design, advertising, art direction, a related field, or equivalent experience.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

This position may have supervisory responsibilities in the future.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Due to the pandemic, we are currently operating in a WFH configuration. It is possible that in the future (2022) we will shift to a hybrid model.

POSITION TYPE AND EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK:

This is a full-time exempt position. Typical days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, between the hours of 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. or as scheduled by management.

TRAVEL:

Limited travel may be required as necessary for the role.

WORK AUTHORIZATION/SECURITY CLEARANCE:

US citizenship evidenced via current I-9 process.
