SkyBox Labs is looking for an experienced C++ Software Engineer to join our Minecraft platform abstraction team! The team is working on low-level engine work, decoding bugs and creating a solid code foundation for our game engine. The work involves a strong knowledge of C++ and you’d be part of a fundamental team that ensures all Minecraft platforms run smoothly.
Responsibilities
Maintain and improve the Minecraft engine’s cross platform abstraction layer.
Implement and improve various low-level systems such as memory allocators, file systems, input, threading, task managers, etc.
Analyze and solve optimization problems relating to modern game engines such as load times, threading issues, memory usage and platform-specific performance issues
Test software and address bug issues as needed
Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback on how to develop and improve processes, tools and workflows
Build strong relationships and communicate effectively with both internal team members and our external partners
Identify and provide updates on technology risks and obstacles to technical directors and project managers
Learn new technologies and systems to meet our technical and business needs
Qualifications
4+ years of professional software development experience within games or a related industry
Strong proficiency in C++ is required
Experience designing, developing and maintaining low-level systems
Excellent optimization and debugging skills
A creative thinker with advanced problem-solving skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Self-directed and takes initiative in order to drive progress
Nice-to-haves:
Experience shipping at least one game title
Experience providing technical leadership and/or mentorship to other engineers
A passion for Minecraft or games in general!

Work During COVID-19
In order to keep our employees, candidates and community safe during the COVID-19 pandemic, the majority of our teams are working from home within Canada, with plans to a return in a hybrid capacity later in 2022.
