Job Description

Overview:
We’re looking for an Online Systems Programmer to join Silent Games, a Double A game development studio based in Newcastle-upon-Tyne with a focus on RPG games that give players a sense of autonomy, mastery and purpose. As an Online Systems Programmer you'll be one of a small team of Programmers, working on the online infrastructure for our Asynchronous Multiplayer Features and other online systems. Our game is in early development, so you'll have the opportunity to build these systems from the ground up, in the way you feel is most effective and have autonomy and control over the online architecture.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop online infrastructure for our Asynchronous Multiplayer features and other online systems from scratch
  • Ensure information security and anti-cheat mechanisms
  • Writing clear, professional, and maintainable code
  • Proactively problem-solve performance and stability issues where necessary
  • Troubleshoot issues and create suitable solutions
  • Perform code reviews with the team to ensure code quality

Requirements

  • C++
  • Strong Knowledge of information security
  • Ability to work effectively with the gameplay team to create interfaces for client-side programmers to query and update the backend
  • Knowledge and experience implementing online backend systems for games
  • Server architecture and live ops
  • Understand game development pipelines from early concept to launch
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Desirables

  • Experience with Unreal Engine 4 and blueprints
  • Desire to work on RPG games with asynchronous multiplayer
  • Experience with Anti-Cheat systems/infrastructures
  • Knowledge of Python
  • Experience integrating online systems with Next Gen console requirements
