SEGA of America, Inc. a rapidly expanding video games publisher and developer within the western market, and is the US arm of SEGA Sammy, a world leader in the provision of interactive entertainment both inside and outside the home. SEGA develops, publishes and distributes interactive entertainment software products for a variety of hardware platforms such as Xbox, PlayStation platforms, Nintendo platforms, PC and wireless devices.

For this position, we are looking to find someone who can hit the ground running for the length of a single upcoming project. This position is open to both entry-level candidates and those with prior experience. While prior experience in video game localization is not a necessary, a strong knowledge of Japanese video games is required.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Stays abreast of trends in videogame entertainment and subcultures, game terminology, and first-party naming conventions. Solves problems by finding suitable English equivalents to complex Japanese nuances, jokes, idioms, etc.

  • Works with other team members on assigned project, communicating in person or by messenger to clarify game text, supported by weekly team meetings. Communicates with Project Lead to track progress and for guidance.

  • Localization Management assigns the Editor to a project on an as-needed basis. Day-to-day work for that project will be assigned by Project Lead.

  • Project Lead, Senior, and Lead Editors will review the work of the Temp Editors and track his/her progress towards completion of the project and overall quality of work.

  • Edits and rewrites game text and some supplementary documentation.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Undergraduate degree in English or equivalent experience.
