The Unreal Technical Artist for Direct Animation is an integral role to successfully maintaining high fidelity content across the virtual production pipeline. This position allows the Direct Animation post team to experiment and innovate across the production pipeline process, providing a landscape of collaboration throughout the multi-disciplined department.

Responsibilities:

  • Utilize Unreal’s blueprints and sequencer tools to implement characters, stage elements and scripted events in different environments.
  • Apply a broad range of skills with Autodesk products to ensure assets translate properly into Unreal for the purpose of cinematic post production.
  • Problem solves and determines out-of-the-box solutions for complex technical requirements that may arise in the Unreal post process and assets from Maya.
  • Maintaining visual consistency across all episodes of production and across all Direct Series projects (with a primary focus on 3D pipelines), along with the creative staff attached to each individual production
  • Supplementing all visual post teams across Direct Animation, including working in coordination with 2D, Machinima, and Broadcast teams as proves necessary during the course of production
  • Following all standardized procedures outlined by Visual Post Artist(s), including meeting all tasked deadlines, updating task status in Shotgun, securing files within Animation Engineering protocols, generating assets following naming convention standards, and communicating with producers consistently on at least a once per day basis

Qualifications:

  • Concrete understanding of lighting, particles, post-processes, material setup and workflows inside UE4.
  • BA in art or related field or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge of Maya with a core understanding of the inner workings of the tool.
  • Understanding of animation pipelines, including character and environment setups.
  • Solid organization skills with adherence to file structures, naming conventions, and other established protocols.
  • Excellent communication skills, with an ability to self-manage and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent Knowledge of virtual production integration for film and television a plus.
  • Strong plug-in writing skills or understanding of C++ in a UE4 environment is a plus.
