Rogue Sun is a team of digital dreamers based in leafy Guildford, UK currently seeking Games QA / Junior Designer to join our growing team.

Rogue Sun was founded in 2016 by a trio of developers who first met while working on the Fable Franchise at the historic Lionhead Studios. Rogue Sun's first two projects were signed by Oculus and Sony with additional exciting projects in the pipeline.

Rogue Sun is looking for an enthusiastic and keen eyed Games Tester with an understanding for solida game design and an uncompromising approach to servicing a high quality end user experience. Due to the nature of the project the ideal candidate would have a demonstrable passion for the Strategy / Grand Strategy / Simulation genre.

This role is for you if you are

  • An already experienced games QA professional with Design aspirations, who can’t get enough of Strategy / Grand Strategy / Simulation games

OR

  • An avid Strategy / Grand Strategy / Simulation gamer / modder looking to get a break into the games industry

OR

  • Anywhere in between!

What you will do:

  • Extensive playtesting of game build with a focus on qualitative analysis
  • Internalise documentation to build a strong understanding of existing, in development and planned features. Help maintain and improve such documentation where appropriate.
  • Write reports on and communicate playtesting findings covering both functional and qualitative aspects of the build. Offer insights and analysis to aid the team in fine tuning game features and inform the design team’s direction.
  • Aid production with maintenance of QA backlog and product backlog where appropriate, particularly where it pertains to end user experience.
  • Get involved with and where appropriate manage playtesting sessions with external playtesters.
  • Be a champion for the end user experience, liaise across disciplines to ensure the team maintains perspective on the big picture / end user while developing the individual features that comprise it.

What you will need:

  • Demonstrable passion for the Strategy / Grand Strategy / Simulation genre (show off those triple digit hours on your Steam profile at last! :D)
  • A solid understanding and appreciation of strong game design principles. Ability to analyse and verbalise what makes a strong end user experience. Some understanding of UX principles.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to use production and documentation tools.
  • An impeccable work ethic and a can-do attitude. Ability to persevere with unfinished software and spot the flaws as well as the opportunities.
  • An attention to detail approach and a desire to, above all else, champion a high quality end user experience, whilst being respectful to the dev team responsible for delivering it.
  • A self-motivated approach to work, moving seamlessly between autonomy and taking initiative as well as taking direction and delivering against specific goals.

Bonus points for:

  • A love for games with depth and sophistication (whether digital or analogue)
  • Experience modding games (especially strategy games)
  • Basic game dev skills (any experience making simple games with one of the popular freely available engines)
  • A positive, optimistic attitude
