Rockstar Games is seeking a Motion Capture Technician to help oversee our new state-of-the art performance capture facility in San Diego. The Motion Capture Technician will work side by side with our passionate teams of animators and technical artists to capture and create the world’s best video game character animations.

This role will help maintain and operate our proprietary capture systems and be a key component to the success of our fast-paced productions.

This is a full-time, in-office position based out of Rockstar’s new state-of-the-art game development studio in Carlsbad, CA.

WHAT WE DO

  • The Performance Capture team at Rockstar is responsible for storyboarding, directing, and capturing all live actor data for use in Cinematics and in-game animations.

  • As a global Performance Capture team at Rockstar, we collaborate with animators, directors, and artists from around the world, working to the highest standards to produce the substantial range of character animations required for our ground-breaking AAA games.

  • We work with bleeding-edge technology to both inform and capture our actors’ movement, facial and audio data to create photo realistic content in our games.

  • We fabricate sets, customize hardware, create props, and utilize every tool possible to achieve the highest standards for our shoots.

  • We capture the core data that serves as the backbone for story and in-game character animations across all of Rockstar’s titles.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure that all motion capture system, studio, equipment and all technology, are consistently maintained and shoot-ready to all for smooth and efficient production.

  • Set up, brief, and otherwise prepare performers for their capture sessions.

  • Calibrate, capture, and process performer mocap assets during a fast-paced production environment.

  • Prepare practical and digital props and sets for capture sessions, ensuring all assets are kept up to date and accurate.

  • Acquire, track, and analyse motion capture data, verifying quality and continuity.

  • Support all phases of performance capture: prep, production, wrap, and post.

  • Help process motion capture data through proprietary pipelines, including retargeting motion capture data to game assets.

  • Test and validate software and hardware updates, supporting the advancement of all systems through research and development.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3-5 years’ experience working in motion capture technology or as part of a motion capture animation pipeline.

  • Experience working in both production and animation.

SKILLS

  • Ability to work well both independently and in a team-oriented environment.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (written and verbal).

  • Adept at working with a variety of different personalities.

  • Self-motivated with a strong interest in motion capture and animation.

  • Self-disciplined, with an organized approach to working practices, and the ability to multi-task, prioritizing various requests at once.

  • Comfortable giving and receiving feedback.

  • Strong tech, math, and 3D problem-solving skills, with a high level of attention to detail.

PLUSES

Please note that these are desirable skills and are not required to apply for the position.

  • Linux OS familiarity.

  • A good underlying knowledge of game animation pipelines.

  • Experience with Motion Builder.

  • On-set production or project management experience in video games, TV or film.

The pay range for this position in San Diego at the start of employment is expected to be between the range below* per year. However, base pay offered is based on market location, and may vary further depending on individualized factors for job candidates, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to those same considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a bonus and/or equity awards, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an "at-will position" and the company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.

*San Diego Base Pay Range

$75,000 - $95,000 USD
