The account authentication team is the front door of the metaverse. We sign users up for Roblox on all platforms and subsequently re-authenticating those users when they want to use Roblox after they log out or move to a new device. When we do our job well, Roblox users will have a seamless experience regardless of whether they are using a PC, Android phone, or iOS tablet.
As a Principal Engineer on Roblox's Account Authentication team, you will specifically provide technical leadership on our team's efforts to scale our backend services and technical infrastructure (databases, multi-cell replication, pub/sub) to meet user demands. We are looking to support 10M QPS by the end of year.
After joining us, you will report to the Senior Manager of the Account Authentication team and will be based in our San Mateo HQ in a hybrid working model. #LI-Hybrid
Lead our team's backend reliability and scalability efforts.
Oversee the creation, monitoring and communication of our teams production SLA/I/O's.
Build critical infrastructure and features to ensure that user authentication is seamless, secure, and reliable.
Learn new skills. We are using ML and Cryptography to make account authentication better.
Work cross organizationally. We collaborate with teams and roles throughout Roblox and get a big picture view of how Roblox works.
8+ years of experience in software development.
Led and Managed large-scale high availability systems.
Worked cross organizationally to land a project.
Familiarity with C# or Go
BA/BS in Computer Science, Applied Math, Physics, Engineering, Statistics, or other technical field is ideal
Previous experience with any of the following is helpful: GRPC, Protobuf, React or relational databases, Nomad, Consul, Vault, Kafka, FIDO2, OAuth2, SSO, cryptography, biometric authentication, facial recognition, or certificate based authentication.

For roles that are based at our headquarters in San Mateo, CA: The starting base pay for this position is as shown below. The actual base pay is dependent upon a variety of job-related factors such as professional background, training, work experience, location, business needs and market demand. Therefore, in some circumstances, the actual salary could fall outside of this expected range. This pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. All full-time employees are also eligible for equity compensation and for benefits.
