The Role

As the head of Scholastic and Amateur Esports in North America, you will run and operate a set of esports programs that cover the entirety of the sub-professional competitive landscape. This includes setting a vision, developing strategies for each program, managing a network of partnerships, representing Riot's role in the ecosystem by leading the Riot Scholastic Association of America, leading a team of Rioters, and accounting for our results and budgets across the amateur and scholastic space.

You’ll oversee Scholastic and Amateur esports efforts across college, high school, amateur and community. The goal of these programs is to establish and grow durable, institutional, competitive infrastructure for Riot’s games. For League of Legends, this means building an inclusive, generational sport across programs like Academy, College LoL, and high school partnerships. You’ll oversee and help create and guide the vision of the amateur space and how it connects to and ladders into other parts of our competitive landscape. Beyond LoL, you’ll develop strategies for how competitive programs should scale to support Riot’s new products. You will report to the Director of League Operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Relationship Manager - You will grow Riot’s relationships with scholastic institutions and partners, tournament organizers and amateur organizations to guide successful relationships.
  • Ecosystem - You will set goals and lead programs to establish and grow the amateur and scholastic ecosystems to help develop the next generation of competitive League players and support North America’s product publishing goals.
  • Business - You will set and meet financial goals. Includes both managing program budgets and developing strategies and products that our partnerships team can service and from which they can create revenue and value streams like sponsorships, licensing agreements, and media distribution.
  • Management - You will directly oversee the work, prioritize efforts, manage performance, and support career growth for direct reports.

Required Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree
  • 8+ years combined experience in esports operations, athletics administration, product management, game publishing, media, or business development
  • Experience hiring and managing direct reports
  • Experience managing an esports team organization (pro / amateur / scholastic) or administering an esports competitive program for a publisher or third-party operator
  • Experience managing partners
  • Experience forecasting, budgeting and managing expenses and revenue streams

Desired Qualifications:

  • 10+ years work experience
  • 3+ years experience hiring and managing direct reports
  • General management experience, including leadership of a department and a P&L
  • Experience with sponsorship, licensing, or media distribution agreements
  • Established network of contacts within pro/scholastic/amateur esports, traditional pro/scholastic athletics, and media industries
  • Expertise in scholastic athletics/esports governance

For this role, you'll find success through craft expertise, a collaborative spirit prioritizing the delight of players. Our Perks:

We offer medical, dental, and vision plans that cover you, your spouse/domestic partner, and children. Life insurance, parental leave, plus short-term and long-term disability coverage are also available. Riot will support your retirement benefits with a company match, and double down on your donations of time and money to non-profit charitable organizations. Balance between work and personal life is encouraged with open paid time off, and a play fund so you can broaden and deepen your personal relationship with games.
