Description Of Duties

  • Works with Art Director, and department leads to help determine and implement the Lighting vision for the game.
  • Using their strong eye for visual quality, composition, color theory, and CGI technical expertise they are expected to create lighting that sets visual quality bar for the game while meeting game performance requirements.
  • Prioritizes, reviews, and guides the lighting team to achieve the defined vision through collaborative leadership and direct feedback.
  • Collaborate with rendering engineers and technical artists to provide feedback, improve lighting technology, tools, and workflows.
  • Tracks individual and team progress toward production goals, identifies resources needed to support achieving them.
  • Responsible for working with Production to prioritize Lighting art tasks and assign work to team members accordingly.
  • Collaborates and Educates Outsourcing Artists to maintain consistent quality throughout the project.
  • Coordinates with Development Management Team to understand evolving needs of the larger team
  • Works with direct reports to assess strengths and challenges and plans appropriate professional growth goals.
  • Handles performance evaluations, bonus reviews, and any necessary disciplinary plans for direct reports
  • Responsible for having 1-1 meetings with direct reports to support strong communication and better understanding of career goals

Summary Of Requirements

  • A strong personal portfolio showcasing lighting techniques.
  • Expert knowledge of CGI lighting techniques, color theory, composition and post-process effects
  • Experience contributing to the development of AAA lighting pipelines.
  • A Strong understanding of physically based rendering for games.
  • Experience lighting characters and/or cinematic cutscenes.
  • Ability to build and manage teams through strong leadership
  • Proven proficiency with lighting in video game engines. Unreal, Unity, or other comparable proprietary engines.
  • Understanding of photography and how it is affected by lighting
  • 10+ years' experience in video game production, including several shipped titles.
  • Undergraduate degree in art related subject; or completion of an intensive art training program; or equivalent independent study and experience.
