Founded in 2010 by the original creators of the Call of Duty Franchise, Respawn was created with the philosophy that when accomplished people have creative freedom, they'll make extraordinary games that achieve the unexpected. From our roots as an indie studio to joining the roster of studios at Electronic Arts, this remains our guiding principle.

We love what we do and want to share our passion with players worldwide. Our shipped titles include critically acclaimed multi-platform games Apex Legends, Titanfall, Titanfall 2, Star Wars™ Jedi: Fallen Order, and Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond. Join us for the opportunity to create groundbreaking games with some of the best developer talents in the industry.

We are looking for an adventurous 3D real-time game-level designer to join a small new team developing a brand new IP. You'll apply your level design expertise and skills in an unorthodox way to develop a fresh approach to building geo and incorporating mission logic in 3D game levels.

Why Join Us:

  • You have an experimental side and curiosity for a unique opportunity that would use your substantial level of construction & mission design expertise in a new way.

  • You'll focus on gameplay and player-facing experience through the lens of level geo & mission design, with a lot of latitude for creative experimentation and exploration.

  • This is a rare founding member opportunity with major creative involvement from start to ship. As part of a lean incubation team, your contributions have a major impact to the project.

  • Our dev culture is gameplay-driven and emphasizes the value of sustained concentration time for work.

  • We often reflect upon and refine our team culture to build trust and connection between teammates.

  • The phrase, "High autonomy, high responsibility, with low oversight," speaks to you.

  • No crunch or overtime. We don't glorify this behavior!

  • Pioneer a new way to build levels for an action-adventure game with our proprietary tools. Create levels best suited to this process that highlight and evolve the game's systems and mechanics, and mesh well with the flavor of the game's universe. Define new taxonomies, and metrics, and develop expert techniques.

  • Develop 3D environments to creatively challenge our players' gameplay actions and abilities.

  • Some lightweight self-production: basic task breakdowns, estimates, and timekeeping.

  • Model the culture and help build the team. Rotate through interview panels with all disciplines, onboard new hires, and help tend to team health and culture in open team discussions.

  • Promote and build an inclusive work environment.

  • Work with all disciplines and contribute to topics at the project level. While everyone has an area of focus, building a great game and a great development experience is everyone's responsibility.

  • Minimum six years of experience designing 3D real-time video game levels and building the geo for them.

  • An online portfolio (time-indexes with links to publicly available videos are also acceptable) showing shipped 3D real-time video game levels that you personally designed and built.

  • Regardless of genre, your portfolio must reflect substantial hands-on experience in single-player mission design and geo construction, be it blockouts or full end-to-end level design and construction. (Multiplayer level design experience will be viewed as a supplemental showcase of your range and variety of skills but is not necessary.)

  • While scripting of missions is not part of this role, you are well versed in concepts such as control of pacing and composition, sequencing of events through a practical implementation perspective, experience with complex objective logic, and how the construction of geometry relates to all those concepts.

  • You can explain your design process in depth, demonstrating your understanding of the way level geometry, gameplay systems, player psychology, and mission logic mesh to create fun player experiences.

If all this excites you, then we want to talk to you. Don't let doubt deter you! We are an equal opportunity team excited about our next journey. We always seek adventurous people bursting with creativity to join us, so don't hesitate to apply.

To apply, please submit a resume and a link to an online portfolio of work samples. We will get back to you once we have a chance to review it!
