Rebellion Developments, a leading independent media and games company, are seeking an experienced and self-motivated DevOps Engineer to join our team in Oxford. The successful applicant will be passionate about robust testing and deployment processes, able to work with developer specifications and manager requirements and show initiative in suggesting and implementing improvements to existing setups.

This role is full-time, based in-house at our Oxford headquarters. We can consider permanent or in-house contract employment but not freelance or agencies. You must be able to legally work in the UK.

We are looking for a minimum 1 year of experience in a DevOps role. A strong academic background is also preferred, with a degree in computing, science, mathematics or similar, or equivalent industry experience. Games industry experience is not required but desirable, along with an interest and passion for gaming.

Responsibilities;

  • Maintain, expand and improve existing CI, testing and deployment of web applications and services
  • Active participation in projects requiring server infrastructure
  • Pro-active communication of technical problems and needs
  • Ensuring the highest possible availability of live systems under your remit, including willingness to work out-of-hours in urgent circumstances
  • Adhering to company software standards
  • Adhering to and enforcing company security standards

Requirements

For this role you will need excellent linux server administration (Debian familiarity desirable) including

  • Strong ability in scripting (Bash/Perl/Python/PHP desirable)
  • Good understanding of network protocols (including SSL), firewalls and routing
  • Experience with nginx, php-fpm, mysql/mariadb and java (memcache, redis, beanstalk, elastic also desirable)
  • Experience with deploying and configuring PHP and Java applications in multiple running environments
  • Experience with virtualisation technologies (such as Xen, VirtualBox, Vagrant)
  • Experience with configuration management and remote execution software (such as Salt, Chef, Puppet et al.)
  • Experience with cloud technologies and infrastructure (AWS desirable)
  • Experience with version control (git and perforce desirable)
  • Ability to quickly learn new technologies
  • Good problem solving skills
  • Clear communication skills
  • Ability to work well with individuals and teams

Other Non-Essential Skills

  • Experience utilising web APIs to automate tasks
  • Experience with JIRA and Confluence
  • Experience with application containers
