Ready At Dawn is looking for a Lead Narrative Designer to join us in creating high profile original titles in VR, ranging from character driven action and adventure single-player to social and competitive multiplayer games.

The Lead Narrative Designer is responsible for creating, guiding, and managing the creative and technical aspects of storytelling within our games. A successful candidate has a solid understanding of story integration for video games and has experience executing complex narratives through the intended player experience. In close collaboration with Directors and Leads, you will ensure that the structure and tone of the narrative are consistent with our game’s vision.

In this leadership role, we are also looking for the ability to serve as an advocate for the Narrative team, to help nurture and guide other Narrative Designers and Writers, through both mentorship and critique, as well as serve as a passionate collaborative partner alongside other teams to create unique and engaging gameplay experiences.

Lead Narrative Designer Responsibilities:

  • Partner with Directors to understand the goals of the game and manage the narrative processes both within the Narrative department and across all departments
  • Oversee all aspects of the game narrative from developing the plot and associated delivery mechanics to implementation and localization
  • Manage a team of Narrative Designers, Writers, and implementers through the life of the project
  • Participate in prototyping and testing efforts to prove-out narrative gameplay systems, story beats, pacing, comprehension, and player satisfaction
  • Create and maintain design documents to share ideas, concepts, and design specifications in helpful, clear formats
  • Help define and improve best practices, tools, and pipelines for the Narrative team and work with other Design Leads and Engineers to ensure consistency across the game
  • Work alongside the Design team to discuss progress, remove roadblocks, provide feedback, and set deadlines and deliverables

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Industry experience as a Lead Narrative Designer with games shipped
  • 2+ years of people management experience in multi-disciplinary teams
  • Knowledge of contemporary gameplay and narrative design, with an understanding of relevant narrative systems and delivery methods
  • Proven understanding of narrative-related pipelines and experience with some game-oriented scripting/implementation tools as well as scriptwriting tools (such as Final Draft)
  • Experience to effectively communicating with Engineers around technical implementation of tools and pipelines
  • Proven editing skills
  • Collaboration, communication, and organizational skills
