Psyonix, located in downtown San Diego, is seeking a Cinematic VFX Artist to join our Video Production team to work on Rocket League! This opportunity is ideal for a highly creative, multi-disciplined VFX artist who has a vast knowledge of effects construction, animation and cinematic implementation. A successful candidate should have an established understanding of dramatic effects while having technical aptitude with Materials and Logic. We are looking for someone with an instinctual sense of weight, timing and motion, while having an eye for cinematic and story driven visual impact, to elevate our video creative with outstanding effects for our products and games.

What You Will Do

  • Work closely with an array of teams including Video Production, Art, Audio, Design and Marketing to develop and build FX content for cinematic trailers, promotional videos, and other cinematic and video related content to grow the Rocket League games and brand.
  • Create all art needed for the visual effects, including FX concept, proto and final FX for video and cinematic related projects.
  • Learn the core approach of adapting in game assets for videos and cinematics.
  • Execute on a broad range of visual effects styles.
  • Strengthen the production value of our video and cinematic content.
  • Work closely with directors, leads and artists across multiple departments to brainstorm and pitch ideas for visual direction and style for trailers and other cinematic projects.
  • Quickly concept and communicate ideas to show to relevant stakeholders and collaborators.
  • Help to advance the visual style, themes and brand identity for all Psyonix titles.
  • Maintain a continued organized archive of scenes, shots and 3D assets for internal and external use.

What We're Looking For From You

  • Must have a strong reel/portfolio showing executed pre-rendered or real-time FX work.
  • 3+ years of experience working on titles within the game industry and/or film, television and other related entertainment/visual industries.
  • A critical eye for the timing, animation, and motion of real world objects and visual FX with an ability to bring dramatic FX to life with flair.
  • Ability to create all art needed for the FX creation.
  • Abilities in secondary areas such as modeling, skinning, animation, or lighting.
  • An excellent understanding of cinematography, timing, and visual storytelling.
  • Desire and knowledge of how to push our effects, editing tools, and pipeline further.
  • Strong knowledge in many or all FX based software including: Unreal 5 Engine art pipeline, Blender, Maya, Niagra, Houdini, Cinema 4D or other related software.
  • Strong willingness and desire to work collaboratively.
  • Experience working with multiple platforms memory limitations.
  • Some knowledge of scripting experience in Blueprint, Python, Etc.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize tasks while balancing quality and efficiency working under tight deadlines .

Major Pluses

  • Experience with editing and post-production software such as Premiere Pro and After Effects or other related software.
  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent in entertainment based FX/ Art or related field.
  • Understanding and knowledge of marketing.
  • Has a passion for Rocket League and video games in general.
