Lead Product Designer, Identity

The fastest-growing high school sport in America isn’t basketball or football—it’s esports—and PlayVS is the official platform of the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS). We offer an incredible, full-stack esport solution—game integrations, leagues, scheduling, and stats—and we are defining the future of esports for tens of thousands of players and coaches nationwide.

Our Identity team builds the features our players, coaches, and recruiters use to find, connect with, and engage one another outside of competitive gameplay. We believe in the power of esports and their ability to bring players of all types together. We're really into community, and we're serious about building the social infrastructure that will empower amateur esports for the next decade.

We're looking for an extraordinary Product Designer to join our team. Product Designers at PlayVS deliver creative user experience solutions to meet the needs of our users and our business. It's a hands-on, cross-functional, highly engaged, and detail-oriented job. No tourists.

For this role, we're looking for someone who designs beautiful, intuitive, and genre-defining product experiences. Someone who focuses relentlessly on the end user, creates simplicity out of complexity, and someone who measures success with key metrics over anecdotes. This role is critical to our growth as a company on our mission to create world-class online experiences through product design.

In this role, you will report to the Head of Product. You will collaborate cross-functionally with Engineering, Product, Marketing, and Data to develop, present, test, and refine design ideas in a fast paced, high stakes startup environment.

Here's what you'll get to do

  • Partner with Product and Engineering to help shape the product strategy and vision for new social and community features.
  • Oversee the user experience of a product throughout its entire development lifecycle. You'll launch new features, measure their impact, learn, and then iterate.
  • Marry robust user flows and interaction design (UX) with pixel perfect visual design (UI).
  • Be responsible for knitting together an end-to-end user journey across multiple products.
  • Lead design sprints, scenario workshops, and other design thinking activities to guide a cross-functional team towards creative solutions to complex problems.
  • Interview users and build relationships with customers to develop your own first hand knowledge and perspective of a product.
  • Partner with other Product Designers to build, scale, and maintain a design system across multiple product experiences.
  • Nurture and recruit for a world-class product design team with forward looking design practices.
  • Foster a culture that values design by advocating for design thinking and deep cross-functional collaboration at every level of the organization.

Here's what we're looking for

  • 6+ years of product design experience with consumer-facing software products across web, mobile, and other platforms.
  • A proven track record with a diverse portfolio of complex product experiences you've taken from conception to completion.
  • A great eye for detail and visual design that brings a brand to life. Your product solutions are clean, focused, and understandable.
  • Ability to clearly communicate concepts and designs through sketches, wireframes, high fidelity comps, and prototypes.
  • Experience with current prototyping tools and user testing methods for rapid feedback.
  • Ability to connect short term plans with a long term vision. You can break a larger product vision out into smaller, iterative milestones that build on one another.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills. Able to present to large groups and executives.
  • Experience helping lead and mentor a team of gifted Product Designers.
  • Experience building and scaling a design system.
  • A deep commitment to shipping product and balancing perfection and quality with testing and learning.
  • A self-starter. You're self-motivated, able to work independently and in group settings, and can perform multiple tasks under minimal supervision.
  • A passion for gaming, its community, and its customers.
