Head of People Operations
PlayVS is building the infrastructure and official platform for high school esports. We work with game publishers and high school governing bodies to build and operate sanctioned leagues across the country. Our software products tie everything together, creating the world’s first full-stack sports platform. PlayVS is headquartered in Los Angeles, CA and is rapidly expanding.
PlayVS is looking to hire a Head of People Operations to be based out of our headquarters in Los Angeles, CA. The Head of People Operations will report directly to the company’s CFO and will work collaboratively with the Executive team to drive innovation, strategic direction and execution for People Operations.
The Head of People of Operations will be a subject matter expert in general human resources and progressive people operations strategy and trends. We are looking for a scrappy, highly proactive collaborator to join our leadership team. Here’s What You’ll Get To Do
Human Resources Leadership
- Serve as the strategic HR partner and trusted advisor to the company and executive team
- Partner with other People leaders to design, implement and manage programs that enhance all phases of the employment lifecycle
- Ensure a world class employee experience through the implementation and management of employee programs that support and enable a rapidly scaling startup
- Develop and execute an organization-wide people strategy that aligns and promotes the company strategy.
- Develop department goals and objectives and use metrics for fact-based decisions
Recruiting Partnership
- Work with Head of Recruiting to focus on developing recruiting strategies for high-value talent in key roles and departments across the company, positioning it as a premier employer of choice.
Organizational Development
- Champion the office culture and promote company core values
- Identify, promote and implement organizational development activities and training needs
- Improve manager development through coaching and training workshops
- Own Performance Management and integrate it with company-wide OKR process and systems
Employee Relations
- Create and manage Employee Handbook
- Ensure company policies and practices remain compliant in accordance with employment laws
- Manage employee relations, accomodations, terminations, and conflicts
- Manage performance improvement action plans
Benefits & Compensation
- Manage payroll process and systems
- Employ progressive benefits and compensation policies to shape workforce incentives and company culture
- Take a strategic approach to compensation and position the company to competitively recruit, retain and incentivize top talent
- Oversee and execute total rewards programs including healthcare, retirement programs (401k), well-being, etc.
General People Operations and HR Systems
- Develop and manage annual people operations budget in accordance to business strategy and needs.
- Manage external suppliers and vendors of administrative oriented HR services (where needed)
- Ensure that transactional people operations activities are handled to the satisfaction of leadership & the teams
- Manage all people operations systems and platforms (i.e. HRIS).
Facilities Operations
- Manage facility operations team to make sure that building systems, security, reception, etc. function smoothly and professionally
- Manage landlord relationships and vendor relationships
- Manage transportation and parking programs, as needed
Here’s What We’re Looking For
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- A true HR generalist with broad knowledge across talent development, performance management, HR Systems, facilities, employee relations, and total rewards
- Strong understanding of local, state and federal employment laws.
- Strong coaching, conflict resolution, relationship and team building skills, and demonstrated the ability to influence
- Highly proactive, independent and execution oriented/task orientation
- Highly agile and adaptable to changes within a fast-paced dynamic environment
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Business or a related field such as Organizational Communications
- At least 3 years of direct experience in a general HR role
- 7+ years of experience in the field of Human Resources & Recruiting
- Prior experience working in California and the US is required
- Hands on Employee Relations experience is required
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in Talent Acquisition, HR & Recruiting Operations
- Previous experience working in HR & Recruiting positions at both established tech companies and high growth startups
