Playtonic is looking for a talented and highly creative concept artist to join our growing team in the heart of the Midlands in the UK near Burton upon Trent.

The ideal candidate will work across multiple projects to help shape art direction, produce sketches to help develop ideas for characters and environments and provide final quality concepts of characters, props and environments for 3D artists to work from. They will also need to be capable of producing final quality art for use in other areas such as UI and marketing. We’re open to applications from all different levels of experience and the successful candidates final job title and salary will reflect this.

As recently announced, Playtonic has acquired investment from a leading technology company, and this will be used to drive expansion for development on multiple internal titles and to grow our recently launched publishing arm, Playtonic Friends. Playtonic retains full creative control over its IP and is looking to scale internal development teams with an emphasis on hiring diverse talents that share our passion for creating the vibrant and uniquely fun games, worlds and iconic characters that we are known for.


  • Work closely with the art director and lead artist on different projects to help establish strong art direction and develop an art direction style guide.
  • Work with the art director, game designers and 3D artists on different projects to produce concept art of props, environments and characters that maintain the vision of the art direction, fulfil the design requirements and take into account technical requirements or limitations
  • Create or assist in the creation of 2D UI art and marketing art
  • Track and update progress of tasks and communicate with key stakeholders to confirm direction, consistency and quality of work.


  • Exceptional 2D skills demonstrated in a comprehensive portfolio
  • Expertise in Photoshop, or other relevant tools
  • Adaptable to producing different visual styles, particularly around the stylised and vibrant look that Playtonic games are known for
  • Highly creative and able to bring fresh perspectives and ideas to a brief
  • Have a passion for games across many genres.
  • Excellent communication skills and enthusiasm for collaboration.

  • Bonus (but not a deal breaker)… Experience in a 3D modelling and animation package such as Maya, Max or Blender
