Technical Specialist, Online Safety Intern
San Diego, CA
About The Role
We are looking for an intern with a keen interest in Online gaming, social media and how to safeguard them to maximize user-delight and platform engagement. An academic background in computer programming or IT systems engineering would be preferred as this internship will involve producing research and analysis documents around the systems that support our Online Safety and Moderation operations. The intern will likely also be asked to build out some web-based proof-of-concepts that can be demonstrated to engineers and discussed at a technical level. Good communication skills and an organized and structured way of working are a must, as well as an passion for making connections with others and building strong working relationships with the Safety team and wider stakeholders
Requirements
- Knowledge of computer science fundamentals and programming
- Expertise in at least one programming language
- Great communication skills with an ability to connect with many different teams of diverse experiences
- An enthusiasm for learning new techniques and applying them in areas that make a difference
- Interest or experience in Customer Support, Community Moderation or related field experience
- Knowledge of online gaming and the ability to research current industry trends
- The ability to build compelling slide decks and present a narrative that will influence others
- Analytically minded with ability to parse through a large volume of data to detect trends and report on insights
- Ability to build consensus, establish trust, communicate effectively and foster culture change across organizational boundaries
- An understanding or interest in online safety and abuse matters
- Ability to research, analyze and solve complex problems
- Knowledge of project management processes and tools
- Ability to work well independently or within a team, and adapt to dynamics associated with emerging / maturing products and services
- Ability to work remotely (from home) or in an office environment that is not located with reporting managers (strong self-motivation and independence)
