Sr. Director, Product Development (Peripherals and Companion Hardware)

San Mateo, CA

This position is responsible for developing hardware products that upgrade PlayStation users’ gaming experiences and creating new revenue opportunities. Your main focus will be to lead all aspects of the entire hardware product lifecycle of peripheral and companion hardware products from concept to post-launch management. The ideal candidate has a passion for gaming and consumer electronics, and is a strong advocate for the customer with strong leadership skills to work with a cross-functional team in bringing the best products to our PlayStation customers.

Responsibilities

  • Lead development of the PlayStation Peripherals and companion hardware product roadmap and required technology solution strategy
  • Help set direction and roadmap on product and technology area for the PlayStation “Official Licensed Product” (OLP) program to support its growing licensing business
  • Understand the platform strategy and develop product lines that complement or improve the platform and/or company goals
  • Develop a product and team culture that understands the importance of continuous and rapid testing and learning. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, such as Engineering and Project Management teams, to make this a routine in our product development process.
  • Consistently supervise and regularly report on competitors, innovation and technology trends, and noteworthy product introductions
  • Establish metrics to measure the effectiveness of products and drive improvements
  • Inspire and empower teams to support our products/projects by strengthening working relationships across teams
  • Build and lead a hardware product team

Qualifications:

  • Hardware platform including technology features experience
  • Experience with peripherals technology as this intended hardware product needs to work with peripherals
  • Deep understanding of consumer behavior, competitive landscape, identifying market opportunities, and championing strategies for growth
  • Sincere interest in and champion for the consumer
  • Creativity and knowledge in all areas of product development including the ability to conceptualize, develop, and implement innovative product development programs
  • A specialist on modern forms and subject areas of product planning, customer discovery, product discovery, and the product development process
  • Knowledge of the functions and process of product development, marketing, package design, operations, manufacturing sales and their effect on product market agility and speed to market
  • Develop product strategy and roadmap
  • Strong collaborator and inclusive partner with internal business and technical partners as well as with external partners
  • International team collaboration experience and influence
  • Able to identify and clearly communicate key risks and make timely, sound strategic judgments in uncertain situations
  • Ability in developing team members and strong background of identifying and recruiting potential talent, working actively and continuously to address weaknesses and exploit strengths

Preferred Experience/Education:

  • Minimum 10 years of product development or product management experience in gaming products, consumer electronics and/or consumer software products
  • Proven experience in leading entire product lifecycles of gaming hardware products or consumer electronics
  • MBA or Master's in an equivalent field is a plus
