The Software Engineer II in Social Applications is responsible for the design and implementation of interactive web-based services. Strong technical background and analytical thinking is expected and the ideal candidate will be heavily involved in designing, creating and maintaining Java code, as well as providing component and system level designs for Sony’s PlayStation Network platform. They will work with peers, designers, technical architects on the development of large-scale systems that support current and future social experiences on our network.
Responsibilities:
Design, implement, ship and maintain highly visible consumer-facing social features
Design and develop real time, efficient and highly scalable APIs for the entire PlayStation Network portfolio
Produce thorough design and development documentation
Suggest solutions and designs for complex problems, achieve team consent and buy-in
Work independently, under tight time constraints, respond to evolving requirements and strategic shifts in direction
Have a strong sense of end to end ownership
Adhere to key principles: Code and design for best performance, scalability and resiliency;
Write and execute unit, integration, and functional tests
Minimum Qualifications:
BS/MS in Computer Science or equivalent experience in technical field
5+ years of coding experience in Java and 2+ years experience with REST services
Required 3+ years working in highly available and scalable server backend systems capable of supporting hundreds of requests per second with 99% sub-second response times
3+ years relational and/or NoSQL database experience
2+ years experience building and developing Cloud-based multi-region applications or services in AWS
3+ years experience developing scalable distributed applications using frameworks like Spring Boot
2+ years working with JMS and high-volume streaming message brokers like Kafka or Kinesis
Strong foundation in CS with an emphasis in data structures, software design, cloud design, and asynchronous programming constructs
Ability to do technical deep dives into code and deployments
Ability to take an active role troubleshooting mission-critical, proactively monitor dashboards and customer feedback channels, periodic on-call duty, and defensive engineering to minimize impact
Well versed in SCRUM/Agile methodologies
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Additional Qualifications:
Experience with search engines like Lucene, Solr, and ElasticSearch
NoSQL experience like Cassandra and Couchbase databases
Kubernetes experience preferred
At SIE, we consider several factors when setting each role’s base pay range, including the competitive benchmarking data for the market and geographic location. Please note that the base pay range may vary in line with our hybrid working policy and individual base pay will be determined based on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. $138,900—$208,300 USD
