Software Development Engineer in Test Intern

San Mateo, CA

Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) is known throughout the world for delivering PlayStation® - a brand that gamers appreciate for combining innovation and quality in their products and experiences. In PlayStation' s Research and Development (R&D) group, the Software Production (SWP) team works to realize this vision: R&D's developers write the ground breaking tools and libraries solving the big problems facing our PlayStation® developers, and SWP's engineers in test ensure that this software is delivered with the highest quality possible. Our game studios demand the best PlayStation® technology to build their best selling games, and this role will build the test systems to ensure we stay the best.

Responsibilities:

As a Software Development Engineer in Test Intern, you will learn PlayStation® technology hands-on: by developing tests, tools, and infrastructure to better analyze PlayStation® console software. You will partner with developers and senior QA engineers to understand software in development and own the design and implementation of test cases and frameworks to expand testing coverage and improve efficiency. Come join us and work closely with your team to improve the test infrastructure for PlayStation® SDK projects!

  • Learn and understand testing methodologies and tools for PlayStation® SDK development

  • Craft and develop test cases for PlayStation® SDK libraries using C++ and Python. Candidates with computer graphics expertise could also develop test-cases using modern shader technology

  • Building and improving test infrastructure, simplifying deployment of building, testing, or demonstrating PlayStation® sample applications. Typically, this infrastructure will be built using Python

  • Develop, maintain, and improve the testing tools and frameworks used for ensuring high quality PlayStation® SDK components

  • Research new tools for building and analyzing PlayStation® software. Tools and Technology used and learned in this internship include Visual Studio

  • Continuous integration and containerization tools such as Jenkins and Docker

  • For those with graphics interest: PlayStation® graphics libraries and technology

Qualifications:

  • Rising senior, projected to graduate by Spring 2024

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited university, pursuing a Bachelor's, Master’s, Ph.D., JD, or MBA degree

  • Proficient in C++ programming

  • Experienced in Python programming. Should have been used in at least one academic project

  • Experience building and running software in both Windows and Linux environments

Desired qualifications:

  • Knowledge of software engineering best practices

  • Writing unit and integration tests. Knowledge of fuzz testing is a major plus

  • Exposure to continuous integration systems

  • Having a computer graphics background is a plus
