Senior Technical Lighting Artist

Remote, Canada

We are looking for a hardworking, and creative Technical Lighting Artist for our next chapter of cinematic storytelling. Become a part of the Visual Arts Group, and work with a multi-award-winning team responsible for the cinematic performances in outstanding Sony PlayStation franchises like Uncharted, The Last of Us, Killzone, and other iconic series.

Responsibilities:

  • Implement and manage new features in lighting tools/scripts within a proprietary pipeline across multiple projects based on collaboration with artists, programming, and management.
  • Translate artist workflows and requests to the programming team, while maintaining a macro view of the pipeline to retain consistent workflows.
  • Help identify potential optimizations and work with the programming team to implement.
  • Monitor and oversee lighting tool functionality and interactivity with Perforce and proprietary asset tracking with the goal of increasing efficiency and uptime for our lighting artists.
  • Work with engineering for tuning farm performance. Troubleshoot build/bake time variations due to load and network issues.
  • Technical troubleshooting to mitigate artist downtime due to technical issues.
  • Identify issues and find solutions within the framework of existing technical limitations and dependencies.
  • Be a repository for pipeline info and technical growth.
  • In partnership with Department Head and Leads, develop training and on-boarding plans for department personnel
  • General tech support and troubleshooting for lighting artists.
  • Point of contact when issues arise to allow for overall view of state of the lighting pipeline and offer a focused and timely response.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 7-10 years of experience working within a complex production environment.
  • Proven ability to create tools within a propriety pipeline.
  • Thorough knowledge of rendering pipelines both software based and real-time.
  • Thorough knowledge of PBR workflows.
  • Ability to understand complex technical issues and communicate them to your peers.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to manage your own time and work within deadlines.
  • Experience with a variety of programming and scripting languages including python and C++, Python and C++
  • Knowledge of shading languages (HLSL, GLSL or others).
  • Experience with Unreal.
  • Knowledge of compositing and color tools.
  • Understanding of common game lighting models (runtime, spherical harmonics, lightmap baking)

Pluses:

  • Unreal 5 engine experience.
  • Experience with C#
