Scrum Master

San Diego, CA (Rancho Bernardo)

We have an exciting opportunity to join Sony Interactive Entertainment, PlayStation. We seek a Scrum Master within the Analytics Engineering team which is part of Data Strategy and Operations (DSO). DSO organizes, manages, and analyzes information to ensure that Sony PlayStation has the proper insights to make the best decisions for the business. We work across the entire organization to ensure that the right data is collected and analyzed to make the proper decisions. Currently there are over 100 staff within the DSO team, split between California, London, and Tokyo, made up of high-quality BI and data professionals covering BI architecture and platform support, data processing, insight reporting, predictive analytics, scrum masters and product management. The ideal candidate will be highly self motivated, great communicator, and willing to work with multiple teams local and remote.

Responsibilities:

  • As a Scrum Master within DSO, you will support one Analytics Engineering team utilizing Agile. The team will be composed of members from both the US & UK that are also business facing, delivering full stack business intelligence across virtually all of PlayStation. Strong communication skills, a good understanding of Agile processes, and of the software development process are key skills for this position.
  • The successful candidate will lead many of the Agile ceremonies for the team including daily stand-ups, backlog grooming, sprint planning, retrospectives and sprint reviews, as well as participate in program planning, reviews and inspect & adapt sessions. The Scrum Master will also be called on to mentor team members on existing, new, or improved ways of working. This position also works with the leadership team to ensure that team members are being deployed effectively and raise any issues that need their involvement.
  • In carrying out your role, you will be a key influencer for the further adoption of Agile delivery within the team, collaborating with other DSO Scrum Masters and members of the DSO PMO, and continually looking to improve ways of working. The successful candidate must establish strong working relationships with other teams, inside and outside of DSO, to plan for and manage cross team dependencies and risks. The team has a broad portfolio of work, so you will be expected to support their efforts across a number of projects and features.
  • The Analytics Engineering team and its collaborators are globally distributed. Ability to prioritize and communicate across geography, time zones, and cultures is a must.
  • The successful candidate will be highly motivated and a self-starter who can see opportunities for improvement and work in a diplomatic, collaborative fashion to ensure these are delivered.

Qualifications:

  • Recognized Agile qualification.
  • Experience using Jira & Confluence or similar project management tools.
  • Experience in a similar scrum master or project management role, working in fast-paced, technically sophisticated environments, delivering business critical projects
  • Excellent written/verbal communication skills.
  • Familiarity with industry leading Agile principles.
  • Ability to facilitate & coach cross-functional teams
  • Ability to engage with senior partners as well as developers.
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Previous experience working in a cross-cultural global environment, with colleagues in different time zones
  • Experience with different Agile delivery styles & methodologies.
  • The ability to work comfortably in a technology and data team, while not necessarily needing to be a software engineer by credential.
  • An awareness and appreciation of data and its value within an organization.
  • Experience working in a role/environment where flexibility and resourcefulness as an individual are important.
  • Willingness to speak up and address issues that impair the ability of the team to meet defined goals.
  • Ability to multitask and context switch between low level detail and the bigger picture

Preferred:

  • Exhibited success as a servant leader.
  • Familiarity with software development and deployment processes.
  • Familiarity with industry leading agile principles.
  • Knowledge of data and BI technologies including Domo, Adobe Analytics, Tableau, etc.
  • Business level Japanese is a plus.
