Manager, Strategy & Business Development Global Esports

San Mateo, CA / Hybrid

Competitive Gaming is an exciting and burgeoning space within the landscape of Gaming. As one of the gaming industry's leaders, PlayStation is focused on the esports business both regionally and globally and as a part of the strategic outlook on the future of Gaming. The Manager, Strategy & Business Development Global Esports will be a senior member of this initiative, responsible for assisting in the creation of the overall global strategy and heavily in its execution. This position will touch on all aspects of the initiative. This person will also help to build the overall infrastructure, determine and allocate resource needs, global/ regional governance, cross-functional partnership, and advocacy.


  • Business Development: Create pitch decks and pitch to publishers and developers to onboard new titles as part of the PlayStation Tournaments lineup. Understand our partners' products. Build and foster long-term relationships. 

  • Manage a multi-million budget for the esports department—attention to detail in maintaining high accuracy when handling numbers and financial documents. 

  • Strategic planning: Understand the trend of the gaming industry, key developments, and SIE priorities. Advise leadership on key initiatives and areas to focus on. Then, execute those strategic visions.  

  • Thought leadership in the infrastructure, activation, and funding design of Global esports/ competitive gaming strategy; providing examples of broader best practices and focusing efforts against areas key to PlayStation's differentiation and advantage.

  • Determine and manage relevant KPIs and its esports program

  • Project Management: Clearly articulate the processes and risks of getting deals across the finish line and ensuring contractual obligations and tournaments run without a hitch. 

  • Analytical Mindset: Be able to think using KPIs, run, examine, and be our go-to KPI handler.  

  • Partnerships Experience: Work with external partners to ensure they have everything they need, and we have everything we need to proceed with our esports activations. 

  • Cross-Functional: Will be working with product, marketing, operations, development, testing, account management, etc., focusing on action items.  

  • Identify and facilitate relationships within the esports/ competitive gaming community

  • Mergers and Acquisitions: Evaluate potential deals. Clearly articulate the benefits and risks of a deal. Confident and comfortable in executing deals. 


  • MBA or Master's degree in Communications, analytics 

  • 4+ years of experience in financial analysis, business planning, project management, operations, analytics, and partnerships. 

  • Previous experience in working with internal and external teams and navigating a complex corporation. 

  • Results Oriented and Big Collaborator: We will work with many partners and teams with very different priorities, and we need someone to bridge that gap. 

  • Experience managing multiple projects in a developing environment.  

  • Exceptionally strong verbal and written communication skills. 

  • Self-starter; tackle challenges head-on


  • Prior Esports Experience.

  • Passion for video games and strong knowledge of the gaming industry.

  • Prior experience in M&A  .worked with large databases and flexible thinking – SQL experience is a big plus; strong in Excel.
