Machine Learning Research Intern - Master's

United States, Aliso Viejo: this position must be performed in a hybrid capacity out of the SIE-PlayStation Aliso Viejo, CA office.

About the Team:

The Visual Computing Group specializes in advancing game streaming technology through cutting-edge visual computing techniques. We focus on building and optimizing real-time graphics rendering to ensure seamless streaming experiences for gamers across various platforms. Our experts in computer graphics and computer vision collaborate to push the boundaries of visual quality and performance, delivering innovative solutions that enhance user experiences. Together, we are dedicated to revolutionizing the gaming industry through dynamic teamwork and technical excellence.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Conduct research in neural rendering or machine learning-based approaches to graphics rendering.

  • Work with video compression standards like H.264/AVC, H.265/HEVC, VP8/VP9 to optimize streaming.

  • Apply deep learning techniques, with a focus on convolutional neural networks (CNNs).

  • Study and implement signal processing techniques and video quality metrics.

  • Utilize machine learning frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-learn, and Pandas.

  • Work with tools like GStreamer, FFmpeg, and OpenCV to improve video processing.

  • Collaborate with team members across various disciplines to develop AI-driven image and video enhancement techniques.

  • Build and test proof-of-concept solutions to improve video streaming.

  • Analyze system performance, ensuring efficiency, stability, and scalability.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field from an accredited institution, with an expected graduation date by Spring 2026.

  • Strong technical background in computer science or mathematics.

  • Experience with Python and machine learning frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow, demonstrated through coursework or projects.

  • Exposure to signal processing or computer vision through relevant courses or assignments.

  • Experience working with Linux, terminal services, GitHub, and code commits.

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently or collaboratively

  • Experience with computer vision or video processing libraries in Python or C/C++.

  • Knowledge of embedded systems and SoC design for low-latency edge AI.

  • Development experience with game engines like Unreal Engine or Unity.

  • Strong coding and software engineering skills in C, C++, Python, or other mainstream programming languages.

Eligibility:

  • Able to work during one of the following periods: May 19th - August 8th or June 16th - September 5th.

  • Must be available for the entire 12-week internship period.

  • Open to students who are U.S. citizens or international students with an F-1 visa.

  • Relocation assistance is available for eligible candidates.

Our intern positions offer a fixed hourly pay rate. Please note that the pay rate is exclusive to the internship period and may not reflect what pay may look like following the completion of an internship.

At SIE, we consider several factors when setting each role’s base pay range, including the competitive benchmarking data for the market and geographic location.

Please note that the base pay range may vary in line with our hybrid working policy and individual base pay will be determined based on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location.

$49.50 - $49.50 USD
