HR Compliance Sr. Programs Manager

San Mateo, CA

We’re looking for a passionate and collaborative HR Compliance Sr. Programs Manager to build and measure compliance controls, ensuring policies and practices are relevant and scalable. As a key member of the HR Operations and Compliance team you will partner with various collaborators across the organization to lead HR Compliance program governance. The right candidate will have a strong interest in employment policies and legislative trends, extensive program management and vendor management experience, and desire to understand and improve processes. This role will also focus on process improvement opportunities and demonstrating industry best practices.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, HR Operations & Compliance, you will be based in San Mateo and work alongside our broader HR Operations & Compliance team. Join this highly collaborative HR team whose mission is to create a highly engaged work culture.


  • Draft and develop HR policies, interpret legislation, and provide policy recommendations.
  • Regular HR compliance reporting and audits – manipulating large data sets from Workday and presenting clean and clear summaries.
  • Contribute to a collaborative team environment and provide ongoing backup and support for all areas of HR Compliance. Share knowledge and have interest in learning broad areas of wider team.
  • Assist with regulatory reporting requirements, ensuring and accurate and timely filing – including EEO-1, CA Pay Data, VETS, WARN, Affirmative Action Plan.
  • Support I-9 employment verification and reverification administration and provide technical subject matter authority.
  • Provide clear and accurate interpretation of employment polices to assist HR and business collaborators – for example, wage and hour, payroll compliance, employment classifications.
  • Audit background checks and assist with background adjudications.
  • Assist in driving analytics, project planning and organization in support of business strategies while mitigating risk and maintaining compliance with labor regulations.
  • Enhance department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different project requests; exploring opportunities to add new value.
  • Manage relationships with key partners in HR, Legal, and external.
  • Project Manager for ad-hoc HR compliance projects.
  • Support and maintain governance and compliance controls for fixed term employee program; including administration to generate extension, renewals, and termination procedures.
  • Labor Law postings oversight, including staying up to date on developments and changes.
  • Analyze trends and metrics, and collaborate with HR functional specialists to develop solutions, make recommendations, and develop programs.
  • Manage vendor relationships and SLAs; implementing program changes to optimize operational processes.
  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
  • Conduct and/or coordinate appropriate training for broader team when new programs have been developed or enhancements made to existing programs.
  • Apply technical expertise to provide information for various projects and/or requests initiated by HR or by senior management. Determine data needs, identify trends, and interpret data.

Required Knowledge

  • 8+ years previous experience and proven results within HR in a fast paced, high tech, entertainment or creative environment.
  • Strong employment policy writing background – succinct, accurate and thorough approach to drafting and updating polices. Experience with Canada employment law and policies a plus.
  • Demonstrated eye for business and analytical skills with experience tracking, analyzing, and reporting employee support metrics and providing appropriate recommendations to leadership.
  • Functional and systems knowledge to effectively test applied fixes and changes, provide effective error resolution, and develop applicable and accurate reports and to serve as liaison to HRIS for interpretation of HR functional needs.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel required, including vlookup, pivot tables, data conversion and reporting.
  • Excellent communication skills and experience working with leaders at all levels of the organization.
  • Innovative and creative approach to problem solving.
  • Strong Project Management and relationship building skills.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, including the ability to accomplish demanding timeline objectives, multi-task on assignments.

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent; PHR/SPHR certification and employment law experience a plus.
