Position Description / Details
The Position
Under the supervision of the Associate Dean for Athletics and Student Life, this year-round, part-time position will be responsible for all aspects of our Esports program, including recruiting, training, scheduling, retention and coaching the Peninsula College Esports athletes at practices and competitions. Further, the head coach will assist the Athletic Department in maintaining all of the policies and procedures required of student athletes in the areas of eligibility.

Located in the northwest corner of the United States, Peninsula College is nestled in the foothills of the Olympic Mountains. The main campus in Port Angeles, Washington, overlooks the Strait of Juan de Fuca and the nearby city of Victoria, British Columbia, and has easy access to the Pacific Ocean, Olympic National Park, and Seattle. Head Coach Essential Functions
- Recruitment: Work with Athletics and Admissions and other offices as needed to successfully recruit new students to Peninsula College to fill competitive Esports rosters with the appropriate starters and reserves.
- Manage scholarship awards to our Esports athletes as defined by the Athletic Department and in compliance with the Esports governing body.
- Competition: Identify and recruit Esports competitors, ideally being able to analyze players, identify strengths and weaknesses of players and develop strategies enabling our teams to compete for Esports championships.
- Management: Develop and execute strategic planning. Manage people and budgets. Ensure Esports facility and equipment are well-maintained and secured.
- Fundraising: Work with our Athletics staff and the Peninsula College Foundation to cultivate corporate sponsorships and booster support to raise money for scholarships and other support for our Esports program.
- Coordinating off-season, practice and competition schedules.
- Running camp, clinics, and promotional events.
- Community: Demonstrate our commitment to a student-centered culture and the academic success of our Esports athletes by engaging them in opportunities to participate in campus and community events.
Duties of the position require knowledge, skills and abilities
- Broad understanding of Esports with emphasis on recruiting, skill development, teaching sportsmanship and life skills, and the ability to help players advance to the next level.
- Promote an Esports environment that embraces diversity and gender equity.
- Knowledge of personal and gaming computers, software packages and office equipment.
- Proficient in MS Office.
- Familiarity with League of Legends, Overwatch, Super Smash Bros., and other popular collegiate E-Sports programs.
- Ability to work independently and interpret information clearly.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to interact effectively with students, staff, faculty and community members.
- Effective written and verbal skills.
- Ability to organize programs and events.
Preferred Qualifications
- Esports head coaching experience.
- Esports recruiting experience.
- Fund raising experience.
- Facility management experience.
Required Qualifications
- Experience in Esports competition.
Required physical abilities
- The ability to demonstrate Esports gaming techniques, lead appropriate conditioning exercises, driving vans.
Required work schedule and work environment
- Flexible work schedule that might involve working some nights and weekends.
Required education or certificates
- Associate’s Degree.
Preferred education or certificates
- Bachelor’s degree.
Employment Terms
- Annual part-time, exempt position.
- Starting salary: $10,000 DOE.
- Opportunities for additional compensation though the planning and implementation of Esports camps may be available.
- In compliance with the Immigration and Naturalization Act, proof of authorization to work in the United States will be required at the time of hire.
